Tactics TFC's Tactical Autopsy Thread

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

That’s excellent work again.

Reinforces the theory about the actual viability and productiveness of Kulusevski, especially visa vi the Maddison v Kulusevski debate.

This is especially informative, when you consider how much harder Maddison works at making himself available to get on the ball, and also tracking back in defensive transitions.
I think both are playing well. Madders is still generating more / better chances than Kulu but the gap is closing. I'd like to see them both continue to improve, plus Johnson and Solanke too.

For Villa if we're not starting both then I think Maddison will start and Kulu come on second half.

Right you fucking nerds - i don't know much about tactics beyond put it in the mixer and stick it in the onion bag...but do any of you have a reasonable explanation as to why we look so good (for large chunks of games anyway) in our home games but we are so flakey away from home? When things go wrong at home we seem to be able to adjust, generally speaking.

Saying that, first half v Leicester away we played pretty good stuff, absolutely brilliant 1st half away to Brighton. Man Utd we were pretty good before they went down to ten. But when it starts to go wrong in away games, we collapse badly (second halves v Leicester and Brighton were abysmal, for example). Why?

If Ange solves it, we'd basically be at or near the top of the table, but what is the problem?

I think we've actually played as well or even better in some away games than some of our home games. As we've seen, Newcastle and Brighton are not easy teams to play for different reasons, but deserved more out off the Newcastle game, possibly a draw v Brighton, even Palace game, as well as they played, we still had 65% of the ball and out xg'd them.

In the league at home, the only really "very good" team we've played, Arse, we lost to. The rest have been meh, might explain why we've beaten them.

We've actually averaged more ball (64% v 57%) away than at home. Our XPoints at home 8.31 is 10th best, our XPoints away is 8.12 is actually 5th best.

How are we for losing from winning positions?
Not great (5). But on aggregate we're equal 3rd and for entertainment value for the neutrals we're number one, with 15 matches (out of 48) ending against the first goalscorer.

Since Ange took over:

xG Creation Index...

I started looking at this on the Maddison thread but have extended it. Basically it's the sum of the xG's of all of the shots that a player has been involved in, as shooter, assist or secondary assist.

Another look this, this time normalising based on the total xG created by their team. This is to try to identify the diamonds in the rough, ie goal-creating players that are in shit teams. It's basically the percentage of the team's xG (for the matches they were involved with) that they have a part in creating (as shooter, assist or secondary assist)

No Spurs above (Son would come in at number 30), highlighting that we have been sharing the goal creation around. Other teams also sharing it around: Villa, Brentford, Everton, Ipswich, Man U, Newcastle. Teams most dependent on individuals: Wolves (Cunha), West Ham (Antonio), Woolwich (Saka).
