Competition The “They’re really going to have a World Cup in QATAR?” Thread

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I hate Qatar more now for making Messi wear that shit for the trophy lift than I did when they were enslaving people and funding death squads.

The fuck is that cloak bullshit all about........????
It's about this (from the article):
As Messi was given the World Cup trophy he was handed a robe to wear by the emir of Qatar, who is also his employer.

You get what you pay for, and Qatar achieved its perfect final here. You have to admire the thoroughness, a blueprint that says we will not only pay for the World Cup but for the players who are most likely to be on the podium at the end: a Messi, an Mbappé, paid ambassadors of Qatar Sports Investments via dizzying contracts with Paris Saint-Germain. This is the real thing: end-to-end fully encrypted sportswashing. It is an incredible feat of will.

Didn't see the game but was Martinez off his line for the pens like he was against the Dutch?

Also, a WC in Canada and US should be fun BUT it does rankle that a 'soccer'-loathing nation will get to host it two times since our only go.

Maybe the Super Bowl will be held one year at our ground?

Hahaha, of course it fucking won't.

I'll try to be brief!

Thanks for posting the picture!

Probably nothing will change in the situation of these people in Qatar, perhaps the "improvements" that the rulers felt compelled to make will be scaled back again?

I've been asking myself questions since yesterday after the final whistle.

What did my television boycott achieve?
Was it just a kind of self-soothing - No!
Can I imagine that this can have any influence - Yes!
Would I have done this too, if the World Cup z. B. would have taken place in Egypt - No!
During the World Cup, did I get annoyed that I decided not to watch a game - Yes!
Am I worse than if I saw the games - No!
I believe that the rulers in Qatar, the officials of FIFA, UEFA and the national football federations will change - LOL!

If I didn't have to be consistent and stop buying new cell phones, buy clothes I don't know where they came from, get involved a lot more in the municipal problems of my city, help the poor on the streets every day I've followed a fad and have assuaged my moral knowledge and don't I have to apply that moral standard to everything, really everything I deal with?

This act of boycotting a World Cup in an undemocratic, in my opinion partly inhumane country leaves me with more questions than I have answers.

And to be perfectly honest, I don't think I'm a better fan, let alone a better person, than those who watched every game with gusto.

Nor do I believe that I am able (because my personal will to do so is far too poorly developed as it should be) to all of the above. to take points consistently.

I will - as of now - follow the World Cup in Canada, Mexico and the USA and "enjoy" every game?!

With this post I just want to share my thoughts with you, nothing else!
Just do what you can no matter how small. It all adds up! Make your mobile phone last an extra year for example. Don’t spend as much on football teams. Boycott what you think you should. I am never paying for pay per view boxing or any other sporting event!! Avoid using plastic where you can. Use the bin & don’t litter. Won’t make a significant difference but still worth doing.

Sadly they'll just carry on as they like.

They threw that Harry Potteresque (anti-)invisibity cloak around Messi to further raise their profile. Remember this, world, history, the great Lionel Messi is the property of Qatar. Huzzah!

That Sheikh and Infantino clung on to that cup like toddlers, desperate to share the limelight with his gladiatorial employee - a man with more talent in a single leg hair than either of those entitled pricks.

Unfortunately, money wins. King Rat of Qatar is now part of the history of the greatest sport. We're going to have to wait for a new civilisation to forget this Ozymandias.

But I understand your turmoil about supporting events and products. We all have to deal with these things on our own terms.

Regardless, my friend, I inject your exclamation marks into my veins!

Of course he did and he was over a metre off it for the first miss with the Lino standing a couple of metres away with nothing else to do but raise his flag for the penalty to be retaken!

But of course he didn’t and had probably already been instructed not to

Disgraceful

Hmm, it's what I thought. With VAR and the world watching they were limited with how much help they could give Messi but they did enough, including not booking him for a blatant handball against Holland. Then there was that thug that kicked the ball at the Dutch dugout just after whacking one of their players.

Great player of course but spare me this fairytale ending nonsense. It all went according to plan.

Wow 😮

We agree!!

Happy Joy GIF

Well that's a dark chapter of corrupt FIFA practices now shut...hard to see if lessons have been learned though since Infantino has behaved like a dick throughout...
