Player The 2024/25 Unavailable (Injury & Suspension) Player Thread

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Yeah, but realistically, especially if we can get at least one result this week, once we hit 35 points the whole squad is gonna be focusing on Europa and the cups.

Fair - but as we saw, again, this weekend - any team can pretty much get a result against anyone in this league bar maybe Lpool and Soton. A decent run of 3-4 games and we could shoot up the league.

Im hoping, with everyone fit there are plenty of players who are desperate to play and if they don't make the cup teams then they will have lots to prove in the league.

One positive from the injuries is that out peripheral players at the start of the season have had a shit load of game time and are likely furthe on in their progression in our side than they would have been had we only been using them in the cups.

There is a maximum of 9 games left in EL which we will be playing twice (ie 2 legs) over next few months, might be as little as 2 domestic cup games

There are 14 PL games left.

One we get our injured back we will have up to circa 20 players available - so enough to rotate sensibly to always field a decent team which is not too tired - particularly once we get 2 midweek game free weeks in middle of February to give whole team a bit of a break.

So I don't agree it needs to be PL or EL - once we get to quarter or semi finals of EL we might decide our strongest team must be in EL, but even then the other team should be good enough to give account of themselves in PL.

Our problem over last couple of months has been having a first 11 but only 2 or 3 good subs on bench - things change a lot with 7/8/9 genuine alternatives on bench

As of last Friday's press conference :

Guglielmo Vicario (out since 23 November), Brennan Johnson (15 January), Destiny Udogie (29 December), Wilson Odobert (18 September), Timo Werner (12 January) and James Maddison, who picked up a calf issue at Hoffenheim last week, are all expected to be available in 10 days' time.

Could really do with a positive update from the next press conference - even if its that some or all of these 6 players are back in full training with rest of the team or at least starting full training as from next Monday.

Van de Ven, Romero and Richarlison too ........ and Solanke even though not expected back until a week or so after the first 6.

Be useful to get a couple more back for Man U on Sunday 16th February - and we have a match free week before then for the first time in several months.

From todays press conference as reported by Alistair Gold :

You said it might have been seven to 10 days ago that you were hoping to have a bunch of players back in seven to 10 days, is it a disappointment that none of them are available for such a big game?

No, I didn't think anyone...we thought maybe Micky was a chance for Thursday. I didn't think this week, it was the start of next week where we're still hopeful we'll get at least two, maybe three back for the Man United game. We've got two full weeks of training, which I think over these two weeks we'll get the majority of the players back with a bit of luck, provided we don't lose anyone else like we lost Richy last night.

Given that Sunday's the last of a long run of Thursday, Sunday games every week, what does next week look like in terms of what's going to happen there?

We'll assess that after Sunday, but I we know we've got two clear weeks. There's a number of our players who are scheduled to come back during that time, so we'll use it wisely to rest the guys who need rest, and certainly there's a fair few of them that need some rest and also hopefully get some work into the guys who have been out for quite a while to be ready for the challenge ahead because I think these two weeks we've got now will be really valuable for the finish of our season.

Ange said 4 will be back training on Tuesday in that press conference. So Udogie, who are the other 3?

Vicario has been reported as being close to a return - so Udogie, Vicario and Odobert are certainly possibilities, and my gut feel is Maddison who was thought to be out for 3 weeks which is now pretty much up maybe being the 4th. But you'd have thought Van de Ven should be in the mix too after 45 mins v Elfsborg

Ange's post Villa press conference on OS :

''We'll get three, maybe four, players back this week, with the possibility of one or two others in the week or two after that''
and
''So, come Tuesday, we should have three or four who have been missing, we can give them a full week of training instead of a couple of sessions and then throwing them in. By the time we get to the back end of the week we should have something resembling a squad of players to prepare for a big game.''

Sounds like Brennan, Werner and Udogie might all make the squad this weekend against United.

Then expect to see Vicario, Maddison and Solanke back the following week. Odobert is back training too but reckon he'll be another slow burner where they will want him in training for at least 2 full weeks before they risk putting him on the pitch.

Haven't a clue how long VDV, Romero and Richarlison will be. Guess we'll be lucky to have any of them back by the time our next Europa League game happens on the 6th of March! You'd like to think Romero and VDV can't be any longer than a month away but honestly I've lost all hope on them two at this stage!

Really miss Solanke and Maddison. Solanke as the target guy to play into and Maddison to knit the play together.

Johnson back at least means we can switch Kulusevski to the middle. Odoburt will be an interesting one, a player who can take on people.
