If I am brutally honest, and the truth is pretty brutal for those of us that don't just see football as a result on teletext, I think since the restart, we have actually seen some meagre evidence of Mourinho-ism finally having some kind of effect. But it's so incredibly marginal. I even checked the X/G's (which give an unbiased measure of the quality & quantity of chances) and even they are struggling to pick it out. If you compare the corresponding games, earlier in the season we had a 4.22 XG against, this last 4 games 4.6 so it's actually eeked up by 0.38. Our XG for has gone from 4.5 in the corresponding games down to 4.3.
So the metrics say we're actually marginally worse in terms of chances we're allowing and marginally worse in chances in chances we are creating.
Bottom line, if there is any improvement, it's slim fucking pickings.
Sissoko, Aurier and Moura form an access of dim on the right side, which is like one of those black holes in the galaxy, anything that drifts into it's nebulous orbit, gets sucked into an oblivion vortex:
This shows how reliant we were on the left side, despite the fact that Aurier is our de-facto attacking FB:
Sissoko's ability trundle out of reach of anyone looking for an out ball is truly world class, and whilst Winks was at least a fair bit more available (received 52 Sissoko 28), he too can play peek a boo at times, and just as when Poch reached for this double
pillock pivot, the result was a midfield that struggled to join the back to front of the team with any real incision.
Will we ever see a real midfield again? Does Mourinho's white board only have 4231 on it?
Fuck knows, finding it hard to care.
