Match The New Harry Kane team vs. The Old Harry Kane team: Bayern Münich v Tottenham Hotspur, Saturday, 3rd August. High Noon!

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

The first 30% was “exceptional” was it? United 1st half at home we were garbage and should have been 2-0 down. Liverpool home - do you really want to analyse that? And Sheff Utd at home? - that was “exceptional” was it?. It was a lovely start to the season but it had flaws…

And just to put it in context in case you think I’m unreasonable and all about results
- the 1st halves against Villa and West Han at home we played truly exceptional football and they gave me far more encouragement than some of our turgid home wins against Brighton, Bournemouth etc..

MOMENTUM! We don’t have any…
Funnily enough, the 'exceptional' I was referring to was our points haul in the 1st 10/11 games... So in a way, it WAS all about results, yes!

The Liverpool, Sheffield Utd Brighton (there were plenty of others) were late shows yes, and maybe we didn't deserve some of those points... But when Man City, Liverpool or Woolwich do it, it's the "Hallmark of Champions"! (Admittedly, they are also able to completely blow teams away with a 4 or more goal hiding occasionally, something we've struggled to do - except at Villa!)

I get why you're concerned with our lack of so called momentum, but we DO have a truly generational talent coming through the ranks, complimented by possibly 5 or 6 of the most promising young players to have come out of the academy since Kane...
THEY could well be the spine of our team for YEARS to come!

I'm definitely trying to look at the positives here!

and we lost half the team injured
9th is literally half way between relegation and winning the league. Some just see it as half way to relegation and start melting and moaning and calling for mass sackings. That would be a glass half empty mindset, don't you think?
So you think the 8th most valuable club in the world and 4th in the premier league - and that was before Haringey council announced 3 days ago that the stadium can now hold 30 non football events vs the previous 16 - shouldn’t be seeing 9th as an abomination??

Ange himself has said repeatedly he’s come to win stuff and be a true success. Here’s a clue - 9th place for 70% of the season doesn’t get you that

40 pts in 28

that's 54 pts over a full season

Last season that would have put us in 9th place 2 pts ahead of Spam, 5 ahead of Palace.

Pretty atrocious. Really, Ange lucky to keep his job with that form for 3/4 of the season
It was poor but lucky to keep his job is ridiculous. It was his first season and he did well the other 10 games and finished 5th.

After finishing 8th and losing his best player.

Because our 5th place finish was largely due to the incredible start to the season when we were a surprise package.

Our performances tailed off massively after the injuries and once the league figured out Ange's system. We will not have that advantage this season.

We have not upgraded the first XI in any way and likely start the season with Kulu as our number 9 which is, frankly, ridiculous.

IF.... Maddison can't bounce back
IF.... Bentancur can't bounce back
IF.... Bissouma can't find consistency and avoid further silly red cards.
IF.... We lose VDV again for a significant chunk etc.
IF.... Richy continues to fail to stay fit
IF.... We don't sign anymore players
IF..... None of our young squad improve.

.....And IF those around us make a few headline moves.

Then yeah; we'd have probably gone backwards..... Premature call in the meantime however.

You're just illustrating my point

OK I'll rephrase

Several managers have been fired for less.

It sounded like I wanted him fired. I didn't. Managers need 2 seasons minimum unless we're in relegation zone like Ramos.

I want him to succeed with us but he has to do a lot better. Some of those matches we lost towards the end? Playing insane tactics and line ups? And then turning it on v Citeh? If we'd played like that for 5 of those disasters we'd have walked CL.

How much is CL worth to LEvy? A shit ton of money that Ange looked to have spunked away with crazy arse performances.

I honestly can't work that guy out at times.

I did say as things stand. Of course it's premature as the window isn't closed yet.

Not sure there is much reason to expect some incredible bounce back from all of these underperforming players. Just blind faith.

I'd be more excited if I thought Ange would take a risk with the youth and actually give meaningful minutes to the likes of Bergvall/Moore/Lankshear but again we have very little evidence to support that.

Ah so switch the manager again. And again and again and again. That will work. Coincidentally how long were Pep, Klopp and Arteta in jobs for?

I think that's just the way things are nowadays. Everything is so reactionary. I blame twitter.

The future was amazing 2 weeks ago after we beat hearts and QPR, these kids were going to be incredible, get them in the first xi NOW. Now we're back down to earth and they're probably not going to be as good as what we have now. As usual it's very likely to be something in-between.

Fuck me, the post about bringing poch back :ange-facepalm2:that really is never going to go away is it. Still it's a better shout than I saw on another forum I used to go on, some cunt wanted lloris in as player manager after Conte lol.
To be fair, the improvement came when we brought the youngsters on, along with Biss.

The first 45 minutes we got battered, it was a very hard watch. The second 45, after the changes, we matched them.

In the past, if we brought academy players into a competitive game, they'd look like lost children thrown into a game levels beyond them. This group have not only stepped up so far, they've embarrassed some of our senior players.

Some of them may not make it with us, but damn it's good to see the talent and self belief in them. Not a single one looked out of place today, and that match was most definitely competitive, Bayern weren't strolling, they were at it from minute one, and they have some serious talent in their squad.

Gotta say, some of you are beyond “glass half empty” and more “there’s no fucking glass!!!”

For example, lotta stick for Kulu who has been consistently excellent this preseason.

I’m expecting at least one diff maker in the door soon.

And if we have even moderate luck on injuries and w no Asian games and AfCon, our results should improve.

Best thing on this preseason is Bergvall absolutely looks a future star.

That 5 game loss streak from last season still concerns me. Players looked shagged out and they did 1st half today. Way we rolled over to liverpool away and chelsea away last season was so spursy. My thinking if it goes tits up early in season get poch back. Tbh he deserved rebuild like he said back in 2019. He we are in 2024....rebuilding!
Whilst I feel Poch should have been backed properly, no way would I have him back. He went to Chelsea, he’s dead to me.

THIS! - he’s shown no signs of being ambitious with youth thus far

......But for it to be the case it's about more than just the window.

As stands we haven't gone backwards... That's my entire point.

Never mind 1st of Sep and deadline day..... We won't be in a position to truly make that call til xmas or even later when any signings here and at our rivals reveal just how much they'll be able to contribute in their 1st season.

Not sure there is much reason to expect some incredible bounce back from all of these underperforming players. Just blind faith.

Why would it be deemed "incredible" for Maddison to get back to delivering the kind of annual numbers that made us buy him in the first place?

Why would it be a miracle for Bentancur to eventually re-find the level he was at before he got hurt (when he was arguably out best player alongside Kane)? ACL's take a long time to bounce back from even after you've been cleared.... Just ask VVDyke; who just proved it takes 12-18 months to get properly back on your feet.........

etc.

Why won't Sarr, VDV, Udogie, Porro in particular continue to grow? ...It's natural to anticipate that; not to assume it won't happen. That's just cynicism taking over. Romero continues to grow. Vic is still young-ish for a keeper's ceiling. Johnson is still young and already clocking good numbers. Contrary to the contempt he receives Richy was clocking good numbers too.

I'd be more excited if I thought Ange would take a risk with the youth and actually give meaningful minutes to the likes of Bergvall/Moore/Lankshear but again we have very little evidence to support that.

Which is why I'm keenly anticipating the Europa games.... I think there's every chance we'll see those 3 and Gray get a fair crack... And whoever does well; logically, in turn, to get a break in the EPL.

So you haven't got any statistics?
First I need to correct myself on my last post (not my original, the one you failed to read correctly) and say it wasn't the worst run of form during the PL era, it was on par with the second worst, the worst was 5 losses in a row, we managed 4 in a row for the first time in 20 years, so something to be positive about hey?

I could go and look right now and copy and paste more stats to show how the first half of the season really padded out the terrible form towards the end of the season after we were completely found out but I know whatever evidence I bring here won't be good enough for you

Your issue is I have questioned the manager and you don't like it, that's fine; it is what it is but let's not pretend you're trying to have a genuine discussion here about the flaws in the system and why our form was so bad, you're just upset I dared question his ability and that I have doubts about him.

So I was out at a show and missed the game. Is it worth looking for a replay or just wait til the rematch?
