Management The positivity thread: evAngelists only

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Pl
He might have learnt some valuable lessons this season (around rotation and changing tactics when down important players). I wouldn't completely give up on him yet, mainly because the managers we are linked with are far from safe bets.

But he has to win us the Europa League to earn his stay. This season has been unacceptable!
i fear he would go the other way and feel more emboldened to stick with the crazy tactics. He will point out it worked in the EL - but it clearly doesn’t work in the Prem and the 3 promoted sides may not be as shit next year

No point thinking about it until it happens but let’s be real, if we win EL, Ange is our coach next season unless he walks himself.

The club will not be sacking the most successful coach in the Premier League era.
The Europa League is NOT the PL...

He's arguably one of the worst PL managers we've had, yet somehow has dragged us to TWO Cup Semi finals.
So yes,he's a Cup manager... But no one is calling him anything else.

But that's fine, for most of the years growing up, we were "a Cup team" but that was only 'cos we WON Cups!

We haven't been a true force in the PL OR the old Division 1 for decades,so it's nothing new.
... we have to start doing that again at least, before we can be considered as anything else!

Ange might not get a 3rd season, but if he wins a cup in his second... Then everyone goes home happy.

His reputation in tact, and our monkey off our backs... and we go again next year with the next sitting duck!

Yeah but since the PL started, the EL would be our biggest achievement by far.

If we win it, what would a bigger achievement since the PL started?

Pochettino establishing us as one of the actual top teams in the world and getting us to a CL final (one round of which the competition bonus beats the CL) dwarfs winning a fucking Europa league title.

Pochettino used to rotate for this competition because we were in battles for the Prem FFS. We used to be playing at the mother fucking Bernabau not the Aspymyra stadium.

Beating AZ, Frankfurt, Bodo and possibly Bilbao the biggest achievement? Give it a rest. The fact we’d still be talking about him deserving a sacking obviously makes that not true.

It is infinitely harder and more impressive to achieve what Poch did than it is to win the Europa league.

Every single team we beat in the CL the year we got to the final would monster the teams we’ve played in the EL.

Anyone with an ounce of thought put in to it could see this but the counter will just be ‘we won dis and lost dat therefore bigger’ cos unbelievably dumb.

To be fair, we had to do the Carabao cup the hard way - beating Man City, Man Utd, and Liverpool - which we nearly did.

As Meatloaf said, 2 out of 3 ain’t bad

You get trophies for playing at the Bernabeu?

Nothing but respect for the team that Poch built. Crying shame they never won anything. Maybe the best team I can think of to never win anything but it's not success if you don't win. It's an achievement, I give you that but it's not more successful than actually winning something.

What about if we'd won the Conference League the year we were in it???

Achievement or Success?? :mourbye:
...or insignificant??

This is like arguing finishing 2nd in the 100m at the olympics is less of an achievement than winning some regional competition just because you technically won.

Getting to the final of the CL required beating a 100 point City team and an incredibly good Ajax side who schooled Madrid and Juventus. Not to mention a very good Dortmund team and getting past Inter Milan in the groups. Even at our worst under Poch we beat Frankfurt. We lost to a 97 point (I think) Liverpool in a final.

We were too good to view the EL as a big success then. This is the painful reality. We played B teams in it because we had bigger fish to fry. Us now having to throw everything in to the EL doesn’t make possibly winning it a bigger achievement lol it’s just a reflection of us having to choose smaller battles.

I loved having Poch as the manager and didn't want him to go. We played consistently well under him, having a prime Kane and prime Sonny helped a lot.

As you say finishing consistently top four in the PL is a fantastic achievement and it leads to really enjoyable seasons of watching games. So, much credit to Poch for that.

Obviously winning the PL is the pinnacle of the season and that should always be the objective, but winning other trophies is great for the club and the fans and becomes part of history.

We were never to big to consider the EL success. If we thought that then we were more deluded than even I could manage

Devils advocate here but isn’t it the other way round. Winning something is an achievement, success is a broader concept of striving and continual improvement.
Irrespective I obviously want us to win a trophy and for Ange to get a stay of execution. Although even I have to admit it’s highly unlikely but you could argue he deserves a crack at the CL if he got us there.
