The race for second place.

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

We could really do with burnley at least holding chelsea to a draw on thursday. That would pretty much give us top 4 if we win tonight.

I know people say second/third/fourth makes no difference, but for me getting second again shows that we are maintaining our position at the top (and makes for a nice pub question in 20 years time - "which team came second three years in a row before finally winning the Premier League in 2019")

It makes a big difference in our share of the market pool in the CL. Not a trophy I know, but more income for the club.

We finished 3rd in 2015/16. ;)

We’re still on for both, but getting knocked out now makes the season pretty flat in my opinion.
4th feels like the minimum for this team, the only thing that could make up for it a bit would be finishing 2nd.

3rd and no cup we’ve done worse, even though playing 38 away games makes it a huge achievement, I just can’t get excited about qualifying for the CL anymore.
We’ve passed that level.

I would preferably take 4th and the FA Cup. I think Champions League is a must for the new stadium. I’m confident we will get fourth. The closer we get to the end of the season and especially after yesterday though I’m letting some of the negative comments people make get into my head.

I’m thinking “Surely we can get two wins out of our remaining 4 matches to secure 4th. Surely. Well maybe. We did lose to Leicester earlier in the season. WBA are fighting for their lives. Surely we should be able to guarantee wins against Watford and Newcastle” I need to not read those pessimists lol

4th equates to regression, but is a must to have champions league football at the new stadium - a trophy would be good to shut up all the twats who keep spouting "bottlers"
It really wouldn't... by virtue of the fact that Qualification for the CL for the 3rd SUCCESSIVE season would represent massive PROGRESSION!
Where we finish to claim a CL spot matters not one jot. (Unless we won the League to get there... then it might matter!)

We've never done it in the Competition's history... (before AND after the 're-vamp')
Coupled with the notion pre-season that we'd probably finish outside the top 6, y'know, due to the "Wembley curse" n'all...

So yes, it's a MASSIVE achievement... But we gotta makes SURE we do it first!

Joe Clash Joe Clash , yes i did read the distribution of $$$ depends on finishing position for the CL, so to me, whilst top 4 is imperative, anything above that is a financial injection and a statement in and of itself.

Naively, I was unaware of the split for CL positions financially.

So the way I see it... finishing 3rd would be great, 4th good with the caveat of an FA cup trophy to top it off.

Selfish ? maybe :)

At this stage of the season CL football is a must. We are in the driving seat for CL football, confident we can pick up required points in the last 4 games. Chelsea still play Liverpool as well.

United are 2nd best team in the country. Realistically one of the biggest clubs in the world if not the biggest so I don’t think we are favourites for the cup either.

It’s a good test for this team to be in a high pressure situation again, I’m interested to see how we cope with that as a team. For me this match is a real look at progression.

The club would receive more money from the CL for 3rd place than it would for 4th place and the cup, but I can’t imagine anyone but the accountants favouring that scenario. Top 4 and the cup would be a magnificent achievement for our season at Wembley.

WBA aren't really fighting for their lives anymore and they certainly won't be by the time we play them. They are going down.

Yes, I agree. As others have said, I'd take top 4 in a Wembley season, and top 4 plus a final, or top 4 plus the cup would be just fantastic.

But I really, really want us to come 3rd and beat Lolerpool - nothing to do with money etc - just the fact of being able to rub the twatty scouser's noses in it again - 8 years out of 9? They'll feign indifference and talk about CL runs but they'd hate being beaten by us again.

So 3rd and the cup remains the aim for me.
