Transfers The Summer Transfer Edging Thread 2025

A transfer window that would be good for us

LCB: Hincapie - would cost a bit but we need a elite CB particularly considering VDV’s situation.

LB: Walker-Peter’s - not amazing but an adequate back up to Udogie and lets Spence and Porro fight for the right back place.

DM - Cardoso - let’s be honest it’s going to be this guy for good or bad.

RW - Dibling - while Semenyo and Gittens would be preferable Dibling is realistic and would be able to make an impact.

ST - Delap - really have to beat chavs to this guy, massive talent. Would threaten Solanke’s place quicker than people think.

We ain’t getting elite players. It’s gone, we don’t pay the wages.

Delap is about as good a young striker you can get without paying a massive fee like Gykores. Hincapie is a top quality LCB, the rest are talented kids that already have very good experience. We don’t buy much beyond that so the best we can do is fill our obvious holes.

Really depends if we stick with Ange. Son and Johnson don’t fit the Ange profile of wingers, pressing is weak, don’t take on players enough, don’t hold the width etc.

Odobert is the only guy who looks like a winger for this system. Dibling is more a fit, so is Yang and possibly Moore but they are all kids.
I agree that neither Son nor Johnson (I have mentioned that several times) fit Angelos' system.

There was a graph years ago of the most successful dribblers per 90 in Europe and Lionel Messi was 1 and Eden Hazard was 2. If you can dribble you open space, which creates opportunity, obviously the key factor then is knowing what to do once you have completed your dribble.

The problem with having no dribblers in a team is it allows the opposition to set in defence without any disruption unless you are incredible at passing you way through teams. Look yesterday and Spence and Bergvall constantly beating their player and opening up room, you need ideally need some of that but of course the player needs to know what to do after they have completed the dribble.
While I won't discount the stated graph, we were provided a list of the 16 most prolific dribblers in Europe's top 7 leagues and aside from arguably Bilbao (4th in Spain) and Sporting, the rest play for clubs not having successful seasons.

I think my conclusion is a fairly sound one based on evidence. It's not a revolutionary belief that the most effective way to bypass a defence in football is to pass through it. Dribbling is exciting, but has waned in importance and continues to do so. Teams that reliant upon it, and therefore have players on the most prolific dribblers list, do so primarily because they're not very good and are reliant of moments of individual greatness. In short, they dribble because they have to because they have no one to pass to.

Dribbling isn't useless, but it shouldn't be the primary strategy.

I’ve been saying this kid is supposed to be mustard for a while , not that I have seen much of him . The Leeds fan in my office who was full of piss and vinegar over Archie when we signed him said the younger brother is super special .
Yeah same we me, know a Leeds fan through work and he has always Said that Archie is quality but his younger brother is even better, hopefully we can sign him and load him back for a season or something

I think our biggest priority is:

LCB/LB: Hincapie (agree, he’s perfect). Absolutely ZERO need for Walker-Peter’s with Hincapie.

CM: we need 2 out and 2 in.

Everything else we need to see how Odobert and Tel look to end the season.

Probably we need a player like Semenyo as well who is ready to move Son to a supporting role right now but it wouldn’t surprise me if Odobert gave everyone pause for thought with a really strong end to the season

People always seem to say this, I can remember the same hype about Anton Ferdinand coming through at West Ham after Rio had left...

:pochshock2:

Pretty sure we had people on here speculating the same about Steven Sessegnon after we had signed Ryan.

Always easy to claim when a younger sibling is ripping it up in the youth teams whilst the elder is getting to grips with top level men's football.
