Transfers The Summer Transfer Edging Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Its like we are stuck in quicksand.

A bad start next weekend, entirely possible, and nothing to provide belief, it feels like we could easily be in trouble.

With January then 4 months away, and options limited, it could get very messy.

Whilst many might have hoped we found hundreds of millions to compete for the title, I was much more content with vying for top 6.

Right now, I'm not sure we will finish in the top 12, then take your pick.

I wrote it yesterday and I will write it again, Levy's weird aspiration, followed (so far) by arguably the most insipid transfer window for a long time will make or break him.
Nah, He will buy a couple, there will be an appeasement signing like a Grealish type just to give the illusion of ambition and keep the natives from burning down the reservation.

And some young buck who our "data analysts" unearthed. Who will probably go out on loan and end up another Bryan Gil.

Levy always does just enough to pull the wool over the eyes of the gullible and we have a fuck ton of gullible in our fan base.

I would take Grealish on loan and Nicholas Jackson as the last 2 signings now if you offered me.

I don’t back this board to do better than that and both players have enough to keep us away from finishing in the bottom 5 positions again.

Needless to say, I was pilloried on here for suggesting we don't make Lo Celso permanent.
I could see a mile away he wasn't up to it.

I think the same as Tel, we made it permanent because we paid such a high loan fee and dont want to write it off despite all the evidence. We're like a gambling addict chasing their money.
Makes an absolute mockery of the loan with an option to buy process imo....really like the fuckwits responsible to appear in the dock and explain their methodology for sanctioning the purchase of two players who showed absolutely feck all during their loan period?

Part of the reason whey we are in this mess, is that for a large amount of time, we abandoned what actually made us good in the market.

A club with our restrictions should be focusing on:

1) Young gems from Europe and beyond, who have been slightly overlooked (Modric, Eriksen, Son).

2) young gems from the football league/relegated teams (Carrick, Defoe, Dele, Bale, Lennon, Rose, Walker, )

3) slightly overlooked players who are approaching their peak (Berbatov, Alderweireld, Dembele, Vertonghen, Lloris, Trippier)

4) academy players who either turn into quality first teamers (Kane) or make a profit for the club in sales after being showcased through loans/a spell in the team (Skipp).

The obsession with “ready made” or experience inevitably leads to us signing absolute mediocrity. Doherty, Hojbjerg, Richarlison, Werner. Palhinha is more of the same, as Grealish will be and people just don’t learn this lesson. The more of these players we’ve signed, the worse we have become

The scariest part is that we are particularly vulnerable to this because the club is still scarred by Lo Celso and Ndombele flopping (ignoring that EVERY big team has flops and they still keep going), and the club behaves like Vultures in the market.

What restrictions?

We're fucking minted

I agree with your whole post, but this point in particular. We won a cup, and that is an important lesson; but we also lost nearly two dozen times in the league, and that is a lesson too. You can learn to be a loser, to accept losing as the norm when you lose week after week after week. There is a lot of muscle memory here for losing in this squad, and a slow start runs the real risk of feeling totally normal, and further cementing a loser mentality.

Oh I agree, amd I do think the youngsters we have bought show a plan of sorts.

But who do they learn from when we continually struggle? Bissouma and Bentancur are not good enough. We need another striker. 3 players of quality transforms the sentiment.

It needs to happen quicker.

I also argued with a lot on here about that loan. The clubs both stated it was a l loan with an option. But because some no name journo on X said it was an obligation, they argued it was that.
So no name idiots on X know more than the actual clubs involved.

I think the lesson I learned there was - there's no point arguing with people. It goes on and on and on and they won't back down.
Just move on.

We are 3-5 transfer windows away from having a team that can compete in the Premier League, assuming we buy decent players.

Frank will absolutely know that.
