Transfers The Summer Transfer Edging Thread 2025

I really don't agree.

I think our starting back line of porro, romero, vdv and udogie is up there with the best in the league as a unit if it gets coached well, which I am confident it will be.
the rest needs big improvements. we've been signing the young prospects who all should be top 4 players in their time, so I'm glad we signed them, but they should be understudies.
Maddison's injury could be a blessing in disguise because he IS a midtable player and we should now sign a starting number 10 who is better than him. and I think we will.
Then there's big question marks over Solanke. Is he a top 4 forward? He isn't going anywhere so let's hope with a properly coached team for a change and some decent service he proves to be
Our CBs are up there with top 4 clubs. The fullbacks are in that tier below, although Porro can be a star on his day.

Agree with the rest for the most part. Our MF is filled with prospects or mid table fodder. Our forward group is Kudus, Solanke and a bunch of prospects and mid table fodder.

The likes of Johnson, Bentancur, etc would be decent enough if we were expecting them to be on the bench (a lot) more often than not. Unfortunately, they’re expected to be our game breakers.

Can't say as I'll be protesting myself, but I don't agree it's 'small time'; and if others want to express their frustrations through protest, more power to them.

But I find your take on where we're at right now extraordinarily relaxed and I'm not sure if it's deliberately that way as a counterbalance to what you see as an overreaction by others, or whether you genuinely are that calm. If it's the latter, I struggle to see what you're seeing that I'm missing.

I'm not sure, for example, that we really have 'improved in a couple of areas', at least, not in net terms. Yes, we've added Kudus and he looks like he's going to shine for us. But it's a bit like repairing garden fences during a storm; we can repair one and claim a 'win', meanwhile others are being uprooted and we have fewer fence panels than ever before.

The Europa Cup win has, I think, muddied our thinking about where we're really at. It's too easy to see our 17th place in the league as an aberration having won the EC, but the truth is, our league form has, for a season and a half been woeful, and the 'saving ourselves for the cup' argument really doesn't wash. The teams we have been competing against at the top end of the table for the past decade have all pushed on and it's hard to make any sort of argument that we have done anything to close that gap.

We have a relatively poor record when it comes to conducting business in the transfer window. Yes, we spend (some might argue not enough, but we do spend), but we do not make consistently good decisions, and our guiding principles seem to be opportunism over need. Whilst I do take your point that we can only really judge the situation once the window has ended and we've seen how the team performs in competition, it feels like a recycled promise of 'jam tomorrow' that is destined to be repeated in January and again next summer.

Jam tomorrow can work as a message if you're recent performances can be framed in the context of a glitch; when it's a pattern, it rings hollow.

I mean, in recent times we actually don't have that bad returns on our buys, not even in comparison to others in recent seasons too.

Romero, Porro, VDV, Bentancur & Kulusevki (they massively contributed to us getting 4th that season) Maddison, Udogie, Sarr, Bergvall, Gray.

Sure some duds but no more on average than most teams out there.

Kudus is also a huge upgrade at RW. Literally the kind of player every single spurs fan has been calling for and we have definitely upgraded DM too.

More to go but largely most people were putting our shit performances at the feet of Ange.

Let's just see eh.

Im not getting my knickers in a twist until I see how we do on the pitch

I think people also forget we have bought a lot of new players the last few years who we are young and have a lot of promise... a few of whom could be on the verge of a breakout season for us.

Yeah let's just keep our fingers crossed and hope for that mate.

Definitely in no rush to try and make up for finishing 17th and losing a huge % of our goal contributions in Son and Maddison immediately after, no siree. Let's just hope some of our youngsters pop up. Proper big club attitude this - definitely what the top 5 clubs would be doing in our situation, you're spot on.

It's not as if we are in the champions league and therefore have to play in four separate competitions and try not to embarrass ourselves at the top level of European football either. Why would we want to adequately supply our new manager? Let's just make him struggle.

Great ideas all round. Sounds like it couldn't possibly backfire.

What are your realistic expectations of this group of players? Surely not top 4, so an optimistic 5th to 8th? And you're happy with that knowing that we have the opportunity to build on last years cup success and improve the starting 11?

Don't answer that or I might start getting embarrassed by fan base. We're supposed to want the best for our team, not worry about how the fucking owners look.

Nah we are supposed to support the team we have.

I think our group of players massively underperformed last season, massively and I don't think its fair to judge until we see what we can do with a new manager.

Doesn't mean we don't need to add depth, but this hilarious the end is nigh attitude is so OTT man.

Whatever you want to do though but I have every right to call it as I see it

WTF you talking about? Except for Kudus, Pahlinha and Takai (who’s unlikely to play), we’ve seen all these players play before. We know what they are and aren’t capable of in most cases. We may disagree on some of them, but I’d say there’s a large consensus on the squad as a whole, by the fan base as to where we stand, and the inactivity of management to improve a squad that finished 17th last season is deserving of protest. But hey, we’ll all pull our heads in because we’d hate for YOU to be embarrassed, petal

EDIT: Your ok anyway, as we don’t associate you as a spurs fan, more a Levy/ENIC fan.
Edit the second: I’m not embarrassed by what the board does, I’m disgusted.

Disgusted... jesus.

Mate, nail on head. It's exactly what he is. He's a fan of the board. He's a fan of being smug at not kicking up a fuss. He's a fan of being the ultimate company man version of a football fan. Ho ho I never complain, I get behind the team, I never ask for more, aren't I great?

He's proud of the revenue sheets and the sustainability. The only thing he's ashamed of is that a proportion of our fans dream of doing more on the pitch - that he despises, any kind of ambition or passion or emotion as he wants us all to be as watered down and grey about it as he is.

Nah, im just not a big man baby crying on an internet forum about us not having bought enough players yet.

Fine lines and all that!!

The only ambition Levy has is to the milk the fan base dry and exploit every commercial angle possible.

It's not about assembling a winning football team.

Its about maximising ENIC'S revenue streams.

Period.

There is no real footballing ambition, just some lesser version to keep your interest hanging by a thread.

I'm sure we'll get a few crumbs before the window shuts.

Rinse and repeat.

Question Mark What GIF by MOODMAN

I’d actually argue that the key is back to good ol’ fashioned scouting.

Now every top side in Europe has access to the same extensive high-level data on players, the key is to actually watch and study the players and decipher who’s a statistical phenomenon and who is an actual game changer on the pitch.

I’m a huge data person but it needs to be used to inform decisions and not make them. I’d love to see how players like Dembele and Carrick would have looked on those wagon wheels.

Our scouting has been broadly poor for a long long time now, data or otherwise.

Edit - no idea why it’s replied to Bus Conductor, fat fingers apologies.
Very well said, good sir!

Fans have a right to be angered by the board, we’re not a small club with no money to spend.
It’s time they started to show ambition & put their money where their mouth is.
The fans pay enough as it is.

Read chris waddles prediction for psg game. Frank will park the bus and will likely lose 1 or 2 nil. 4 days away from another trophy chance and done nothing to address squad problems. Infrastructure we address but not the playing squad.
