Transfers The Summer Transfer Edging Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Yea, agreed too!
I remember arguing you about Palhinha and midfield options - I still stand my ground that Palhinha was very much needed addition. But IN ADDITION to him we would have needed one more CM whose main weapon would be good passing range and vertical passing, specially now that Bissouma is (rightfully) frozen out of the side. I feel that leaving that mostly on Benta and Bergvall might be bit dangerous.

I guess we have to compensate it with Sarr (+ our fullbacks) carrying ability, Simons dropping deeper + CBs playing ball out with more urgency compared to what we saw in Bournemouth game.

Moved this conversation to the Bissouma thread because the only conclusion I can reach now is that he can’t be sold yet.

The Athletic had a crack at rating all 153 Premier League transfers from worst (Marcus Bettinelli - who?) to best. This is how they ranked our signings - Kudus and Simons should be higher, but Spurs also took out their number 1 spot...

141. Kota Takai, Kawasaki Frontale to Tottenham Hotspur

The Athletic’s reported transfer fee: £5m

Contract length: Five years

Promising 6ft 4in Japanese centre-back whose fee is a record for a homegrown player leaving the J-League. The 20-year-old is currently around Spurs’ first-team squad covering for long-term injury absentee Radu Dragusin, but will likely head out on loan before long.

121. Mathys Tel, Bayern Munich to Tottenham Hotspur

The Athletic’s reported transfer fee: £38.9m (with add-ons)

Contract length: Six years

The initial agreed fee of £47.6million when the French forward arrived on loan in last season’s winter window was negotiated down after an underwhelming few months. Huge potential, a really high ceiling and still very young having turned 20 in April, but potential is all it is for the moment.

78. Kevin Danso, Lens to Tottenham Hotspur

The Athletic’s reported transfer fee: £20.9m

The Athletic’s reported contract length: Five years

Will be Spurs’ third-choice centre-back, but given the injury records of Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, he’ll play plenty and in the meantime is excellent backup compared to the club’s recent standards in that role. Limited as a player but very solid and a great character in the dressing room, plus he’s already a bit of a hero for the part he played in helping them win the Europa League while on loan last season.

52. Mohammed Kudus, West Ham United to Tottenham Hotspur

The Athletic’s reported transfer fee: £55m

The Athletic’s reported contract length: Six years

On his day, a maverick with the dribbling ability to light up and win any match, but inconsistency and his temperament have been issues, even if he has kissed and made up with new team-mate Micky van de Ven over the slap that got him sent off in a Spurs-West Ham game last October.

20. Randal Kolo Muani, Paris Saint-Germain to Tottenham Hotspur

Transfer fee: Loan

Contract: One year

Bit of a statement signing. So quick, so dangerous in the final third and surely so motivated to revive his career in a World Cup year. Nicely done.

13. Xavi Simons, RB Leipzig to Tottenham Hotspur

The Athletic’s reported transfer fee: £52m

The Athletic’s reported contract length: Five years

Tough to judge, this one. An all-encompassing No 10 who put up great numbers (10 goals and six assists in 25 Bundesliga league appearances) in a struggling team last season. Intelligent, agile, an expert ball-carrier and a supreme creator in the final third. The 22-year-old Dutchman has had a weird career path and needs a permanent home and a bit of love, but he could be a game-changer for Spurs if new coach Thomas Frank can mould the attack around him.

1. Joao Palhinha, Bayern Munich to Tottenham Hotspur

Transfer fee: Loan

Contract length: One year

For two years with Fulham, Palhinha was arguably the Premier League’s best hairy-a***d ball-winning anchorman, and possibly one of Europe’s best too. For Spurs to bring him back to England for peanuts adds a layer of steel to their midfield that has been missing for some time. Palhinha will not only shore up their defence, but will also help allow their creative talents to shine.
And that according to Jeff Stelling gives us the best transfer window 🏆

I think our squad is looking really good now. Average age is 23.7. Average height is 1.85m. Main weaknesses are at LCB/LB, so a shame we did not get a deal done for Hincapie, Akinji or Ake. Obviously a real shame that Maddison and Solanke got injured in pre-season, but we have good cover / competition. Despite it being disappointing to miss out on Savinho, who would have really elevated our left side, we have the best set of WFs I think we've ever had at the club. I know some fans have reservations about Tel and Odobert, but I am sure Cochrane will get a really good tune out of them. I know it was a late opportunistic signing in response to Solanke's injury, but I am really excited by Muani. HE can play across th efront 3, and I think is a seriously good player who has a 1 in 2 record at Juve and Frankfurt. He can play RWF, allowing Kudus to play central, he can lead the line, or he can play off the left (where I think he will be best for us this season). Exciting times.

GKs: Vicario, Kinsky, Austin
FBs: Porro, Spence, Udogie, Davies
CBs: Romero, VdV, Danso, Davies, Takai, Dragusin,
CMs: Palhinha, Bentancur, Bissouma, Sarr, Bergvall, Gray
CAMs: Xavi, Kudus, Maddison, Kulusevski
WFs: Kudus, Odobert, Johnson, Tel, Xavi, Muani
CFs: Richarlison, Solanke, Muani

Vicario
Spence -- Romero -- VdV -- Udogie
Palhinha
Bergvall -- Xavi
Kudus --- Richarlison --- Muani

Subs: Kinsky, Porro, Danso, Bentancur, Sarr, Johnson, Odobert, Tel, Solanke,
Porro on right, Spence on left for me, all depends whether Opponent has a brilliant left or right winger. Spence would play left or right to counteract that winger as both Porro and Udogie are weaker than him defensively.

Have to disagree on that.
When he is not professional and committed, it is mindset above some raw skill.

Meaning we lose less when we freeze out his abilities than we would lose if we have someone in the side who is not even bothered doing most basic things. Can't rely on him doing more difficult things then either, sorry. I wanted him to do well for us, but its over.

He will be shipped out to wherever the window is open and this is it with him. As I said we need to compensate this with other players now.

All the talk of investment, and it’s the same £120m net spend as the last few seasons. Nothing will ever change with Levy around.
I do feel the difference though is this year that 120m net was spent on “ready now” players, whereas recently they have almost been seen as punts on future that hasn’t improved the team at all.

However as always windows will be judged with the benefit of hindsight.

On the face of it, looks a very good window for us, but we have thought that previously and bitten us, and sometimes what we think was poor window, have with hindsight been decent.

Yeah, we certainly have more quality now than at the start of the window, and maybe Frank will polish some of those rough diamonds we bought into gems, but we fell so far behind in the last few years and you have to spend a bit more to catch up.

I think we're the nightmare to deal with...
Well Liverpool got totally screwed by them anyway. Pulled the plug at the last moment leaving Pool with no time to get a Guehi replacement after they spent the day working on his medical and announcement video because everything was done.

They almost screwed us again with solomon too by changing their mind in the final moments. Thankfully the Spanish deadline went a bit over so we found another option.

Palace have been an absolute nightmare to deal with, and thats before we even get to the Eze saga.

I am quite reassured by the ambition shown by the club this window.

If you think about it, not only did we sign who we signed, we also tried to sign Hincapie which would have been about 50 million. We tried for Savinho for around 60 - 70 million. We almost signed Eze for 65 million.

City wouldn't sell Savinho and the other two chose another club. Not much we can do about that.

The issue the club faces, is we are targeting a specific level of player, and those players have other clubs wanting them too. As we've seen with the scum. As those other clubs are sometimes more appealing than we are.

So it's a tough thing for the club to navigate and overcome. So the fact we have signed Simons, Muani, Palinha and Kudus is actually really good work.

Hincapie and Savinho would have been the icing on the cake.

What this shows, is the money is there to do these deals and bring in quality, we are willing, but it all depends on can we actually get the player in, do they want us.

So hopefully this season we can kick on, finish top 5 or 6, and keep being an attractive option for players, and slowly we can build and improve.

Fucking about fucked us. We had three months to either pay what City will accept or move on to another target.
think thats a very simplistic way to look at it. We offered 45m initially and by the sounds of it we had verbally told them we'd meet their original asking price of 70m but City changed their stance and said he's not for sale.

We waited in the hope they'd change their stance but the Cherki injury ruled out any slim chance of them doing so. Can't really blame the club here imo. We were being ambitious and willing to pay a transfer record for a player that a top club did not want to sell. We didn't want anyone else (Lookman, Garnacho, etc). We'll probably try again for Savinho in January.

Tel didn't show enuff and we still signed him...that 40mil & wages coulda/shoulda gone towards a FB, LCB, CM or goalie.
We clearly think we can do something with him, he’s only 20.

At 22, Mo Salah went to Chelsea where he scored 2 in 13, previously he was at Basel where scored 9 in 47. In 2015 he went to Fiorentina on loan and scored 6 in 16 and then to Roma and scored 29 in 65. Aged 25 he moved to Liverpool and so far has scored 185 in 290….

Lets see👍👍

You've got a real hard-on for someone that probably played less than a dozen games for us.

It's very strange.

:kanehand:

Development? Who gives a fuck?

We need to be selling him first chance we get, average player that's done the square root of fuck all in a Spurs shirt and yet some on here are acting as if he's some sort of club legend for 'ahem' reasons.

:pochunimpressed:

What the fuck is wrong with you?

Someone wishes well for a player that was contracted to Spurs and you go full ballistic and then follow up with totally out of-thin-air comparisons with Sons and Bissoumas and whatever? Get yourself checked out :D .

I think it is OK to wish well on players that were/are related to Spurs. I wish Gil well too, even though he did not work out well with us. Whats bad in that?
