And they have the conviction to get a player like Rice, whereas we have a conviction to our spreadsheet model.
They did, but that was when the whole project had achieved lift off already. He was the next step. Until we find the right coach, gain some consistency, have a load of the young players make the break through to consistent PL performers we’re not gonna have one of the best PL players in their position see us as their next step anyway.

I think we better go separate ways

Farewell Mr Shandyflan

Fine, but you're missing out on all this knowledge from one of the greatest footballing minds ever to exist on the world wide web

You will regret this

This feels weirdly doable in the exact same way the Parker deal felt 15 years ago. They had just gotten relegated, Scottie wanted to only come here, Spam’s hands were tied.

Hm. I didn’t believe it at first but there may genuinely be something in this.

We’re in the CL, if we offered them the wages and paid the fee, we could take any player we really want from the majority of clubs.

Rice was from Wham

If we went as hard for Wharton from Palace , for example, we’d get him

Kudus: perfect profile, right wing elite dribbler but very inconsistent.

Ramsey: very good player but not a DM and not really a 10 more like a Gallagher or Henderson. So good but doesn’t fix the DM issue on the middle.

Don't shoot the messenger, but this is what my mate at the papers is hearing rumblings of

Son to USA.
New contract for Romero. Will be captain and our higher paid player (more than Kane).
New contract Bentancur.
Seymenyo or Kudas preferred over Eze. Eze to expensive since we already have Mads and Kulu.
Dragusin wants first team. If Romero stays, he's gone.

Defense of the top priority. Don't be surprised if we start playing some very defensive football in preseason.

Levy wants to win the premier league this season.

Why is a 31-year-old player on £200k being presented like a preferred/optimal signing?

When Redknapp was in charge, apparently (said everyone, for years) all the club wanted was 30+ year old players because they didn't want to pay for younger ones. The rhetoric flops about too much for a club that has had no real deviation in leadership.

We've signed Llorente for strong money, and brought in Perisic. Poch said at the time there was no age issue with signings:

The evidence is quite clear that we aren't a selling club that farms players - bit weird to suggest that when it literally doesn't happen. The club did very well to keep the best players here as long as possible, to the point where we don't actually worry about it these days.
So you didn't read any of what I just wrote, then? The part about accounting etc. no?

Llorente was £12m. It wasn't big money then and then was 8 years ago.
we don't have a blanket ban on older players, but we absolutely do favour players 25 and under.

Our top 10 largest fees.
1) Solanke - 26
2) Ndombele - 22
3) Richarlison - 25
4) Johnson - 22
5) Romero - 24
6) Maddison - 26
7) Sanchez - 21
8) Gray - 18
9) Porro - 23
10) Van De Ven - 22

2 out of 10 over 25 at the time of signing.

Even if I keep going to 20, you get Sissoko and Soldado as the only 2 over 25.
4 players out of the 20 most expensive we've signed over the age of 25

This is not an accident. It doesn't mean we are a selling club or looking to sell. It means a creative account can say those players are worth X amount and put them down as an asset, which is a positive.
A player nearing the end of their contract, especially of a certain age cannot be classed as an asset.
That is important. Assets Vs Liabilities are used for all sorts and you always want more assets than liabilities.
