Arbitrary, fan-concocted rules in being arbitrary shocker.
They obviously have a better system than us then, as most of our 'top'/costly signings over the past 10 years haven't been very good.

Not a million years ago, we regularly finished above Liverpool and the Gooners (for 8-9 seasons I think). Then somehow, they are signing £100m players and stretching the gap to us, having easily overtaken us, whilst we made a lot of poor decisions.

Catching up is going to be really tough for us now, sadly, especially with our wage structure and the type of players we appear to be in the market for.

Our bad trf business during the Levy/Poch/Hitchins era hurt us WAY WAY more than the summer without any signings.

It means buying a player believed will go directly into the first team

Tricky concept to grasp apparently

The player who played 2nd most minutes last season was Kulusevski whose minutes were equivalent to 38 games out of 60 games in all competitions last season.

Just 11 players played enough minutes to be equivalent to 30 or more games last season (ie more than half games)

So we need a fairly large squad, not just a first 11, and to do that in CL we need to include players who are CL and/or List B (u21's who have been at Spurs for more than 2 years to get above 21 players (17 overseas and 4 HG).

The whole concept of a first team player has gone out of the window : I doubt if what most thought our first team last season played together more than 6 games (out of 60) due to injury, need to rotate or otherwise not available.

Salah was not on top wages being spent by City/Chelsea or United at the time. He was on about 120k a week, top players were 160k+ at that time, with Hazard being on 220k or so De Bruyne on 175k, Pogba 200k.

Salah's wages were closer to Lloris' than those players.

Allison was on 90k when he signed, less than Lloris, less than half of De Gea....

Mate - you're having a mare here.

Alisson signed on very similar wages to Lloris and then doubled them within 2 years and Lloris stayed the same.

Virgil’s first full season with Liverpool was on 180k pw which is massive now let alone back then. Romero is on 180 now…

If you compare the total cost of transfers in terms of wages and transfer fee, Virgil, Alisson and Salah vs Lloris, Son and Romero, it’s just silly and you are making yourself look silly to reinforce a point that isn’t a point.

Someone called him the “German Declan Rice” which I can’t tell is a compliment or not

Saw him doing some warm up routines...

Know a few spammers and they are not fans of kudos, typical motd player they say, flair in small portions, very poor work ethic , in fact virtually no work ethic and then there is the temperament. I think for that money we can do better.

No, no, I'm not. You were not comparing them to US - you said they were paid what the TOP players were getting. Not spurs - but the top. My point was that they didn't spend what the top teams were on wages, and still arent BUYING players - bar one on wages that the top teams are.

Allison and Salah were categorically not signed in line with the very top wages at the time.

VVD was. That is one player - They did not win the league by constantly matching the top teams for wages or even fees.

People have constantly been talking about transfer fees being a red herring, and WAGES being the marker for people to be successful - I can find you countless posts saying this.

Liverpool have shown that is not true - Woolwich have shown that is not true, United have shown that is not true, Chelsea have shown that is not true.

What is true is that it is multifaceted and requires a number of things to happen. Well-paid players are one, sure, but so is a squad built together as a squad with a coach that fits the squad they have - you need your best players to stay injury free too and also, have your closest footballing rivals slip up.

That would be an accurate description. He's a sunshine player. Not what we need right now. Type of player Man United or Chelsea sign and he has 4/5 good games a season before inevitably falling out with everyone at the club and then being loaned out to places before ending up in Saudi. Sancho type.
