Simply because no established Premier League clubs need to sell their players anymore. TV income is insane in the PL. Clubs are milking it in. They don't need the transfer money anymore.

Also the PSR rules have actually scared clubs off buying too many players so the idea of selling a top player so that you can buy 3/4 players is no longer as appealing. You'd need the buying club to nearly pay you the entire 50m upfront for you to be able to spend that money in this window without breaking PSR. I think this part gets missed by majority of football fans. I even see it with our own fans wanting to sell romero for 70m so we can just go and buy Eze but its not that simple. Eze's fee is 80% upfront which works out as 55m upfront. We'd be doing well to get 25m upfront off Athletico so you are actually 30m down in this PSR window. Probably not an issue for us as we are in a safe PSR place but its a disaster for most PL clubs. Thats why they charge top dollar and demand most the money upfront. It took Real Madrid almost 10 years to pay off the Gareth Bale fee, I wouldn't be surprised if they still owe us money! Bayern still owe us money for Kane hence why the Tel deal was so easy to do!

Same here, I'm of the opinion we need winners, but winners don't necessarily need to be arrogant pricks. Any player with attitude issues, even if they come full of happiness and team spirit etc. will be prone to change if things don't go their way, and football is too up and down for that. We need lads that can keep their head and their professionalism whatever happens.

I'm actually gone off the idea of throwing 80m+ at Wharton or Baleba.. I think Archie Gray, Sarr and Bergval all have the ability to become top players. Archie maybe even becomes a proper 6 down the line. But while we are waiting for their progression, why not just get someone properly experienced in who can do a really good job for 2/3 seasons. So my preference now is Luiz/Palinha. Both would walk into our team and instantly make us far better. Bentancur would be brilliant beside either of them. Basically a massive upgrade on Bissouma.

This will require Levy to bust up our wage structure a bit. Experienced players who are ready to win now usually want 200k a week!

It’s clear we need a Left sided defender and a 6 (DM)

Attacking wise it seems we’re combing the AM and wing forward position with links to Semenyo/Eze/Xavi Simons/Kudus I reckon it’s only one of these not 2 and then one of the young French lads to back up Dom and sell Richy


Personally I’d rather have 2 of the 4 let’s say Semenyo and Simons and then keep Richy as bsck up.

Got a few Hammer mates , they loved him when he first arrived . By the end they felt he was a big time Charlie who thought he was to good for them .

Which is not an unreasonable take on his part tbf.

Anyway he didn’t down tools but they felt he didn’t put much of a shift in for them either
 
Kudas is going to need some coaching. Amazingly flashy player but often very poor productivity, a typical move by him is beating 2-3 players and rather than passing to someone in a great position to score boots it miles over the bar. A selfish and unpredictable streak combined with great talent. If you can coach the fix he would be a top winger in the league, if you can’t it’s just another ok winger.

Mbeumo, Simons and Semenyo for me would be much lower risks. No way West Ham get the £85m release clause meet. They have Paqueta probably banned for life and their squad is poor, they do need to raise funds so I can understand them wanting money for him.

Bowen is the real one but they can’t sell him, they would be in big danger of relegation without Bowen. Bowen might be the most efficient player in the league when it comes to making the right decision, knows when to shoot, knows when to pass, just a very smart player.

Yesterday, when the first links broke on Kudus, I said Semenyo would be better option and felt we should avoid Kudus....

But I think I was wrong - I got affected by recency bias.

I was talking about the 5 goals he scored last season. But overall, If I look at his time in PL, season before he had 9 goals 8 assist in PL and overall all comps 18 goals 10 assists in 2023/24.

If Frank believes he can get the best of him again.... I will take Kudus over Semenyo.

So, yes flip flopped in a space of a day...

You do get the fee up front for PSR purposes (for accounting purposes full stop) and you can amortise the purchase. That's why there were all those sales last summer between Everton, Villa and Newcastle. The cash element isn't accounted for per se, so what you're saying is wrong except to say that the value of cash now is greater than the promise of cash in the future. As such, it's not a PSR problem but the willingness of our owners to provide cash determines how much we can spend.

It’s shaped by the framing, the variables you choose and the comparisons you make, and the assumptions you build in. You’re misusing the concept to shut down debate because you have lost all bearing and have nothing else to add.

Now, to break down the gaslighting, flip-flopping, and misdirection happening here:

My original point—Liverpool won the league without buying elite players on elite wages—is factual, not subjective.
You jumped in claiming Salah and Alisson were bought on elite wages. That’s provably false.
Then you pivoted to total transfer cost....but only once the wage angle stopped working.
Then back to wages.
Then back to the transfer cost again.

When that didn’t land, you pivoted to tone, hilariously implying I don’t “get” how this type of debate works. But all that really shows is that you’ve run out of ground and are leaning on condescension.

You invoked a general statistical trend about wages correlating with league position something which I never denied.... I said it’s not the full story, especially at the top. And the fact that Liverpool outperformed clubs with vastly bigger wage bills - 4 of them actually - supports that. That’s not me ignoring data. That’s me understanding it in context.....which you’ve refused to do from the start.

There’s no way you analyze data for a living and you are so hung up on individual outliers as an excuse to “win” an argument in favour of your position instead of engaging with a discussion about a well studied trend.

Obviously there are other factors that affect the margin and those factors can be the difference between winning or not. Those factors and subsequent outliers don’t mean that the trend isn’t observable and statistically significant.

Don’t try and give it the biggun because based on your answers I hope you really don’t work in data for a living.
