Transfers The Summer Transfer Edging Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Problem with Poch wasn't the academy, it was not sending players Like Onomah and KWP out on loan to gain experience and keeping them in and around the first team.

He also fucked around with KWP, never gave him a run in the team despite playing well when he was given the opportunity.

He also gassed up Marcus Edwards too early which clearly got to his head.
If all 3 had been good enough they would have become 1st team regulars at Spurs. Yes, they could have been loaned out earlier in their careers but it's as if that stopped them from being EPL stars.
KWP was not playin that well when give his chances (12 games). He looked lost in defensively weak. And still is.
Onomah did ok at Villa but not so well at Sheff W. Now he not a regular even at Blackpool-
Edwards had an attitude problem

Our academy. Our academy wasn’t good enough. Apart from Kane none of them have truly gone on to big things after us. When Paratici came in he had to fix up the whole thing according to Ally Gold, we spent sod all on it for years, a cheap operation. It’s now in a better place and we seem to have more talented kids like Moore, Donley, Williams-Barnett coming through the ranks. I would never ask a manager be it Poch, Jose or anyone to use kids when they clearly don’t have the ability.

it is a critical time for a career. A lot of parents were moving their kids into other academies because of how Poch was misusing the pathway.

It's too easy to say that it wasn't good enough, but you have Maghoma playing in the PL for Brentford, Parrot is doing double-digits at the top level in NL, Madueke was pulled out of that age group into PSV, Omari Forson left for Man Utd and is playing in Serie A etc.

That's before we get onto the timeline paradox stuff of "would Marcus Edwards have improve if he was actually given game time?".

After all, we can question if Harry Kane would have been Harry Kane or more Evan Ferguson if he went to another club before Sherwood put his neck out for him. That drive to play for your team can kick players on more, and Kane looked very average on his loans. It's too easy to say "those that didn't make it weren't good enough" if they didn't get the right development.

Fine but even so a £70m loan up front and then paying back with interest doesn't make any sense.
I doubt it would be a £70M loan. As I understand it, the clause is for £60M with £8M in performance related add ons. You don't pay add ons until the player hits the performance related targets. Again, I would expect these to be factored into operating costs over the contract length.

KWP was given MOTM when he debuted for us, then got dropped for weeks. IIRC, he then got MOTM in his next game but was dropped again.

He most certainly was playing well in the rare opportunities he got. I can remember a high proportion of fans being absolutely mystified as to why he kept getting dropped after some very promising games.

This isn't me advocating us bringing in KWP by the way, but you suggesting that he was poor when he played for us is just plain wrong.

Why are we talking about Darwin, he's average.

That's why we're talking about him

Unless we sign him.

Then you'll be hailing it as the greatest transfer coup of the century and rolling out your "Daniel Levy Apology" letter 😆

One question.

Why did you go 'radio silent' after becoming champions of Europe. I would have thought you, as a self-confessed 'genuine spurs fan' would've been overjoyed and want to make some positive posts.

Instead you went quiet for weeks. Bit odd.

Cool, my point still stands though.

People moaning about liverpool wankfest are focusing on the wrong thing.

It's more like, why the fuck aren't we run like that?

Their squad building makes sense, and they show ambition.

We are constantly shopping in and around the 25 - 40 mill range as that is what Levy sees as best value.

We should be all over the likes of Guehi and Eze this summer. I bet we sign neither.

I don't hear their owners talking about building hotels and residences, income from pop concerts, or "investing in the community" all the time either.

It's almost as if the Liverpool football club owners are focused on football. How short sighted of them...

I think he was MOTM in the first and last games of that season. Ironically, those were the only 2 PL games he started that season, although he did come on as a sub in a few other games.

Pretty much had MOTM in every game Poch allowed him to partipate in

He got bullied heavily defensively. He was good on the ball but he couldn’t deal with it off the ball. I remember that well and the frustration is caused, perhaps it was that he was too young but you can’t play someone if they aren’t physically ready.

I'll bow to your memory there, I just recall him getting the two starts and two MOTM's.

My greatest recollection is fans being mystified at why he never really got more games after excelling in those he did start.

I can't recall him ever looking weak when he played. We also have to remember that under Poch, our subs usually only ever got around 15 minutes on the pitch. He always seemed to make changes after 70 minutes, hardly time for even a seasoned professional to make a mark on the game, let alone a youngster in his debut season.
