Transfers The Summer Transfer Edging Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I know he would be seen as underwhelming but I keep seeing Omari Hutchinson pop up on a lot of datasets for U23 wingers in the top five leagues.

Can’t say I watched Ipswich a lot last season apart from when they played us, but if we are gonna play a more vertical game this campaign, I thought he gave us lots of problems on transition, particularly when they beat us at home.

End product is probably not quite there, but he’s still only 21 and can play both wings, although he’s said he prefers the right. I’m sure a smart club in the PL will pick him up.
I liked the look of him in the games I saw

What is the best feed you people follow for transfer news that isn't being pulled from thin air? Everything I see is contradictory, even more than in prior years

Our academy. Our academy wasn’t good enough. Apart from Kane none of them have truly gone on to big things after us. When Paratici came in he had to fix up the whole thing according to Ally Gold, we spent sod all on it for years, a cheap operation. It’s now in a better place and we seem to have more talented kids like Moore, Donley, Williams-Barnett coming through the ranks. I would never ask a manager be it Poch, Jose or anyone to use kids when they clearly don’t have the ability.

Kane (and Winks) were the last of a wave of good (if not great) players that our academy kicked out....... The McDermot years.

Between him leaving and Poch's approach to the acad & loan system; that represents the mess that Paratici inherited.

Bryan Mbeumo

A couple of quotes from Mbeumo:

“I’m someone who needs support and love to give my best performances. I’m really lucky to have someone like Wissa, who always wants the best for me.

“I always want to give 100 per cent but there are some times when I’m feeling down, so having someone like him who will help and push you in the right direction is brilliant to have.”

And:

“I had been at Troyes in the past and, when I came here, it felt the same - it’s a family where everybody can speak to everybody and laugh with everybody," he began.

“Sometimes we do group stuff outside with the team and I think that’s great."

He added: “Every time someone joins us, we try to make them as confident as possible. This is what I felt when I came here as well.”

Mbeumo mentioned head coach Thomas Frank as a reason why the squad was so tight-knit, before discussing how the boss has helped him since he departed the French second division in 2019.

Mbeumo continued: “I have a very good relationship with him. He talks to me a lot - even if it’s a bad moment for me, he’s here to help me to reach the top. He always gives me confidence. I can only thank him.

“He gives me advice, mentally, and on the pitch as well, so it’s great to work with him.”

He added: “I think it’s his closeness with the players. It’s not only me, it’s the whole group who he is very close to. I think it is one of the best things a player could have.”

I can’t help but feel that we have a massive advantage over Utd in this regard - not only because of Frank, but the culture, environment and expectations in general. We also have a larger African and French speaking contingent than Utd do. I know this may sound like a small detail, but I’ve watched and listened to a few of his interviews and think this stuff really matters to him.

He’s also said that his best position is as a winger, so I’m not sure how he fits in at Utd where it sounds like he’d be shoehorned into the team as a 10. Why take a risk when he has the opportunity to play for a manager who knows how to get the best out of him?

Utd will be the favourites if they’re offering far higher wages, but it sounds like we can outpace/outmanoeuvre them and I’m pretty confident he can be won over if we agree a fee and make our pitch.

It would actually be something like:

Pay £10m a season off over 5years, so the first £10m we pay and borrow £50m.

So season one, £2.5m interest (paying off £10m), season 2 = £2m (5% of £40m), season 3 = £1.5m, season 4 = £1.0 and season 5 = £0.5m.

Total £7.5m interest cost at 5% on £50m.

Making him £67.5m + £8m add-ons.

Seems chicken feed, the increase, given the potential team uplift a high end attacker would yield.
Ok, I just asked Google what the payment on 5% of £60M would be over 5 years and my number came from that, I'll take your numbers.

It just reinforces that taking a loan to cover the initial down payment isn't a stupid idea. As I posted previously, I really don't see the difference between doing that and paying extra for Porro to avoid the lump sum upfront payment.

The usual way in practice is to offer a higher number than the buy out clause, but paid in instalments, and that frequently works.

So buy out clause £60m , you offer say £65m spread over 3 years (or whatever).

Key thing to note, whatever tactic you use, you end up paying more than buy out clause, and buy out clauses are usually set at the maximum they thought other clubs might pay. So you end up with a high priced player - so its a question of whether the player really is that good/game changing for the buying club. Its usually a massive win for selling club to get top $ for the player

The strategy of demanding 49.5m upfront. There are 2 potential avenues.

Bid less than they will accept all summer then say to Frank we tried.

Or convince Frank on the benefits of buying an unknown player from Lique 1 for 16m.

TBF 50m up front is unreasonable. If I was a player, I'd never go to palace. Its like a black hole where nobody can escape.

I think this is the jist. The football manager games represent it well.

It could be a case that a £50m up front Eze is equivalent to a £150m budget equivalent when paid over installments - so limits our reach of the summer window

One question.

Why did you go 'radio silent' after becoming champions of Europe. I would have thought you, as a self-confessed 'genuine spurs fan' would've been overjoyed and want to make some positive posts.

Instead you went quiet for weeks. Bit odd.

We won't sell Richarlison to bring in Darwin. We wouldn't even turn over a profit on that transfer and Darwin's wages will be higher. It's no secret that we are trying to cash in on Richarlison and Son this summer. My guess is atleast 1 will be sold but it'll be to bring in someone younger and cheaper.

I'm not justifying this BTW. Darwin would be a big gamble but a fun gamble! I just know how the club operate and Darwin would just be seeing as way too high risk and low reward.

Funnily enough I could see Woolwich moving for Darwin if they fail to get in other targets.

Challenging on four fronts Frank won't want to keep a player that can only manage twenty games a season, especially when there is no other true option.

The Richarlison experiment should be ended.

KWP was given MOTM when he debuted for us, then got dropped for weeks. IIRC, he then got MOTM in his next game but was dropped again.

He most certainly was playing well in the rare opportunities he got. I can remember a high proportion of fans being absolutely mystified as to why he kept getting dropped after some very promising games.

This isn't me advocating us bringing in KWP by the way, but you suggesting that he was poor when he played for us is just plain wrong.
80% of the time was barely average, always a few mistakes per game in him, not strong enough easily bullied, not reliable....

Nice guy, he loves Spurs so always be happy for him & like him, but as a player at a top top level big fat NO
