I rate Wharton really highly but he's not there yet and Palace will struggle next year balancing Europe. They'll finish midtable at best and I can't see them winning Europa. I don't think Wharton will be desperate to leave but there is no way he'd say no to a move if an offer came.
This idea that Adam Wharton is already above us is just wrong. He might turn into a Man City / Real Madrid type player but he's a few years away from that and we'd be an ideal stepping stone if he's good enough to make the step. Ideally we'd be competing with them teams in a few years and he wouldn't want to leave but that is just me being hopeful rather than realistic.
What if he doesn't want to ply abroad and wants to stay in England?

So you think he just stays at Palace until Liverpool or City come in for him? I think you are really underplaying the difference between Crystal Palace and Spurs. His career could stagnate at Palace very quickly

Look we can obviously attract a player like Adam Wharton but I think sometimes fans are a tad delusional, get into the players head - if his stock is generally on the rise and he has high potential then Tottenham isn't going to be a wise career move, we need to get realistic, the ship has sailed on that one.
Besides all that what's the point in investing in Archie Gray for £40m if you're gonna just turn your back on him after a season of turmoil, that's literally why we have a coach and a coaching team, to get the best out of players like these.
Of course, that's literally what Olise did - people were literally saying the same thing about him...he signed a new contract which meant he could only leave for a CL club and eventually went to Bayern. I can see Palace doing something similar with Wharton.
The FA cup performances is what rised his stock. He was the best player on the pitch against Villa in the semi final. I just think a midtable season without any cup success has the potential to stagnate him. He'd be perfect at Spurs. We are crying out for a player like that. I get your concerns re-Archie Gray. Maybe we should just do the rebuild right and allow these young players time to step up. Short term pain for long term gain. But if we were serious about trying to challenge in the next few seasons than signing Wharton would parachute us into the equation! He's literally the exact type of player we are missing in midfield. He would solve so many problems.
Being mid table has nothing to do with it lol Liam Delap literally earnt a move to Chelsea on the back of his team being relegated, Cunha and Mbuemo are Utd players etc...if you're a good player, the big teams will eventually pick you up, same with Eze...he's obviously a stand out hence why people are arguing for him to come to Spurs.
RE: Gray - a year ago people were talking him up to be a future England intl, yet all of a sudden we need to throw him on the scrapheap all because last season was a disaster and literally all of our players went backwards. We can't keep turning our backs on our own players and pine for shiny new toy syndrome especially since our players lacked proper coaching over the last year or so.
Yes, no need for arguably the best striker in Europe last season.
Our 38 goals in 7 PL season’s striker is perfectly fine.

No striker playing in Portugal can be called "the best striker in Europe". It is a pub league through and through and a totally different intensity to the Premier League.
If he moves to the Prem, he is likely going to struggle. He'll have a fraction of the time and space to work with and infinitely more pressure both physically and mentally to deal with.
Any club who spends the £60m+ required to sign him will regret it.

Too much of a mouthful.
What doesn’t make sense is the links to various wide forwards if the intention is to play 352. It could be that due to the lack of availability, he may switch to 352 and sign players best suited to this formation. Frank could however try and deploy a Pep system where he plays only one wing back with a wide forward in a wing back position on the other side.
Should we sign Eze, then a 352 would be the best way to factor both Eze and Maddison into the team. It will be interesting if the plan is to play 1 or 2 strikers.
