Transfers The Summer Transfer Edging Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

If the money or the will is not there, then really what difference will it make?

Signing another potential isn't taking us anywhere in the next 3 years by which point we will be out of the CL and any of the previous potentials who did develop will be looking to leave. And on the cycle will go.
Oh the money is there. It has to be there.
We have third party non football revenue our rivals can only dream of, remember, which

......:levyhands: "all goes back in to the team"

You're absolutely right.

I just don’t get why so many people spend so many hours on here defending it. Even supporting it!!

I mean why would Spurs fans so vehemently back a transfer policy that is so clearly and blatantly holding us back?

It just doesn’t make any sense.
you talk such utter bollocks sometimes...

Our 30M+ Signings - Soldado, Lamela, Sessegnon, Ndombele, Lo Celso, Solanke, Brennan Johnson, Richarlison

our "cheap punts" Eriksen, Dele, Lloris, Kane (academy) Son was 20M, Rose, Walker, Wanyama, Dembele, Bale, Modric, etc etc

yes of course that's not to say we don't need to spend big, we do but stop lying.

Wouldn't be a TFC transfer thread without enough soapboxes to fill an industrial warehouse

And the horses seem to be getting taller each year

They aren't only reacting to this summer tho are they?

If we are all being honest here, they are reacting to 20 odd years of lived experience under these owners. The difference is that the Chairman told us to expect different this summer because we want to win the PL and CL.

When you mix the extra expectations he CHOSE to set and the lack of faith built by his actions in the past, you can see why the majority feel a mixture of apathy, anti-climax, and sinking dread when it comes to this summer?

I see that but still it get very tedious when so many of the posts are about what an *** (fill in the xxplicits) Levy is for failing to get Eze, and to a less degree, Mbuema.
Many fans are obsessed with Eze in particularly, as if he's a messiah who'll magically turn Spurs into a top-4 team.
Yet none of those fans knows who Frank's targets are. Yes, one may have a rough idea but we don't know exactly what's going on the behind the scene.
Besides, and this is not deferring some of the past mistakes Levy's done...but fact is: he's one of the best chairmen Spurs' history and the best chairman for 3-4-5 decades...

I know what I am about to say will tip some people over the edge but;

The money Palace want for Eze, who will be 27 tomorrow, does not represent good value in my opinion.

Yes he is a proven player but; he has averaged about 10 league goals a season, for the last 3 seasons.

Manor Soloman is 25 and his 4 in 19 Premier League games for Fulham suggests he could hit similar levels to Eze if he plays 38 games.

Perhaps the money, (if there is any left after Levy's bonus payment), may be better spent elsewhere?

You look at the financial results, we are losing money every year. Yes, the stadium is generating a lot of money, but we are fighting with teams in the PL whose owners are putting in hundreds of millions. Ours aren’t and never will.

Prior to ENIC ie. the 90’s. We weren’t the big 6. We were lucky to finish the top half of the table and might get a decent cup run from time to time. Our stadium capacity was also top 10 rather than top 6. We generally underperformed our fan base.

Pre-ENIC the big guys were ManU Woolwich, Liverpool, Newcastle, Chelsea and Leeds.

Hate Levy/ENIC for their mistakes by all means. But they have definitely made us better and competitive in an environment when corrupt oil buys you premier league titles.

You didn't watch the interview with the new CEO then? That is exactly what he said, word for word.
He didn’t tell us to « expect different this summer ».

If you follow the conversation rather than trying to understand things in tweet-sized sound bites, Levy said he wants to « compete » in the league and CL but that the longer term goals for the club are to win the league and CL.

Nothing there should make you think you’ve been promised anything this summer.

Bang on.

I remember how excited the fan base was 15 years ago just to be playing in the CL. It was incredible to have these glanourous nights in the most prestigious European competition. We were just happy to be there because it didn’t feel real.

Now people’s emotions are hijacked by 50 character nonsense.

No, I watched the whole thing and he said the EL was not enough, we want to win the PL and the CL.

In exactly those words.

We were also much more regular trophy winners, 1 or 2 per decade.

Personally being in the big 6 means absolutely fuck all to me so I'm not measuring that as success.

Don’t weasel your way out of this. You said we were told to expect different this summer. We were not.

He said we want to COMPETE.

The talk about winning the PL and CL was talking about long-term aims right at the end.

If you have made up a different narrative in your head then it won’t become true just because you repeat it.

Go in for Garnacho instead. Higher ceiling.

Yep a proper deeper lying central midfielder, a 6 in modern parlance although I was told off for using that term.
