Worth noting that I think between '76 and '01 the club won 5 out of 7 finals (excl. charity shield), and between '01 and '26 the club has won 2 out of 6 finals.
So the number of finals is one less, but our ability to get across the line has suffered.
I doubt anyone could call the period of '76 to '01 equally or more competitive as it has been in the last 25. The economic scales have exploded into new motivations for winning things (such as sports washing and arguably some level of money laundering in terms of the post-communism oligarchs)
My point was the club is said to have been in the big six or whatever it would have been called, before ENIC/Levy took over.

Wikipedia has the club in the big 5 in the 1980s.

Romero pretty much said outright that he would leave if Ange was sacked. So, it's no surprise. 50/60m for a player that has started less than half of games is a pretty decent fee.
Actually he just outright said he'd like to play in Spain full stop. He specifically invited Argentinian press to our training ground to say it.

The fact you're falling for this "only wants to play for Ange" nonsense is hilarious tbh

You got 1 whole less laugh this time than the last time you made this joke mate

I'd like to say you can do better but after 2 years on here, im not sure you can.

Don't worry, JT and Deurtz will be along to give you a funny in no time tho!

KYA
Maybe you could write about this experience on your next blog post

I'm just honoured that such a celebrity even has the time to read and react to my posts

Btw , I'm still waiting on that autograph you promised me

selling Romero for 47 million is not gonna happen. Atletico Madrid need to stop pretending they're that poor otherwise they're just wasting everyones time. One thing with Levy is he isn't gonna just buckle because the player's head has turned , he'll just be forced to stay for another season
A rich club pretending to be poor attempting to buy a player from another rich club pretending to be poor.

What could go wrong, eh

Ramsey - if it happens (I bloody hope not) smells of a club signing considering we’ve reportedly wanted him for a few seasons.

What I don’t get, is why have we’ve gone to the trouble of restructuring, bringing in a competent manager, bringing Fabio Paratici back, knowing the blatant holes and deficiencies in the squad yet we’re still pursuing a player who will add next to nothing different to what we already have.

I’ve seen some mention about how he’s got very good ball retention similar to Dembele… he looks nothing like MB, he was a huge unit who was in full control of everything he did, he was cool, calm and collected, a truly wonderful player. Ramsey on the other hand looks clumsy and his ball retention is due to scrapping for the ball as opposed being dominant like MD.

Where does he play? Villa often use him as a wide forward. His record (assists and goals) for a 24 year old is pathetic. This has opportunistic purchase written all over it.
I struggle to see where Ramsey fits in. He doesn't start for Villa in CM, Tielmans, Onana and Kamara are all better. McGinn starts ahead of him more too. Ramsey often plays wide for them.

To me he'd be a similar player to Sarr and I'm not sure if he's even better than Sarr. I really don't get our obsession with him. Is he any better than Hojbjerg who we were desperate to sell last Summer? I don't think so.

I reckon we'll end up going for Wissa now and he'll be our "big" signing. Prob sell Richarlison and keep Son then.

Don't see there being much other action. Surely we sign a midfielder but think it'll be someone bang average like Ramsey now.

We'll only sign a defender if we sell Romero.

And that'll be that. Probably buy a few uknown youngsters too who won't be ready to play for us. We like doing that.

No fucking chance West Ham sell us a player for a reasonable fee.

I think I would rate Gooners as the only team less likely in world football to sell to us.

Tottenham eye West Ham’s Mohammed Kudus in end to unofficial ‘transfer embargo’ between rivals

Joining Spurs would make midfielder first player to move directly from east London club since Scott Parker in 2011

Tottenham Hotspur want to break their unofficial transfer embargo with West Ham United and make Mohammed Kudus the first player to move directly from their fierce London rivals in over 10 years.

Kudus has been identified as a primary target by Spurs, who are believed to be optimistic they can clinch a deal for well below his £85 million release clause that is said to run for the first 10 days of July.

Tottenham had shown an interest in Bryan Mbeumo, Antoine Semenyo and Eberechi Eze, but it is Kudus who sources believe is currently the most likely signing to bolster the attacking options of new head coach Thomas Frank.

West Ham are willing to sell 24-year-old Kudus to help finance a summer rebuild under head coach Graham Potter and the player is believed to be open to the prospect of a move across London.

Joining Spurs would make Kudus the first player to move directly from West Ham since midfielder Scott Parker in 2011.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy blocked Emmanuel Adebayor from joining the Hammers four years later and the clubs have not done business since the Parker deal.

Chelsea had shown an interest in Kudus, but the Stamford Bridge club are completing the signings of winger Jamie Gittens and forward Joao Pedro.

Kudus would give Spurs Premier League and Champions League experience, and his ability to play across the forward positions behind a striker will give Frank plenty of options.

Tottenham are yet to make an offer for Kudus and the club will need to help fund signings by selling players this summer, while there is also the possibility of fresh investment from owners Enic or from outside the club.

The future of central defender Cristian Romero remains uncertain, but Spurs sources denied reports that a fee has been agreed for the Argentine with Spanish club Atletico Madrid.

Romero took a swipe at the running of the club this summer and it remains to be seen if he can be convinced to stay, with the defender due back for pre-season training in the second week of July.

Kudus joined West Ham for almost £40 million from Ajax two summers ago and scored 14 goals in all competitions in his first season in England.

He was less productive last season, scoring only five times, in a West Ham team that struggled in the Premier League.

Moving to Tottenham could make Kudus an unpopular figure at West Ham, who have not sold a player directly to their rivals since Parker.

I think if we’ve learned anything it’s that we don’t have ITKs in this era. We may have had some inside info in the past but that’s completely shut out now. No one knows a thing.

As I've noted before, it's not impossible to have ITK, but I feel it is impossible to be an ITK.

That is, if you were the cousin of a player then you might find out something juicy about a move - but once you leak it, you're probably toast. In my own experience, you can hear something through a totally random interaction - this could be team/contract/stadium/etc - but again, if you share it then it'll come back to you just as magically as it did in the first place.

It's a weird thing to be, an "ITK". It's basically a gossipy gobshite in any other context. People seem to tolerate it but it has been damaging to the clubs to have people leaking team selections just for their own onanistic internet fame.

But otherwise - I feel like any previous/legendary spurs ITK is now shut out, whether because their relative/source has left the club, or because they've stopped hiring the bus driver/pilot that was telling everyone their shit, or no longer using agents/midde-men who are unreliable

This might be the most depressing thing I have read on here, Wissa as our star signing, what a shambolic window that would be.

Sure, but there's a few different definitions of it. Cup wins, financial power, player pull, and/or league finish.

Only the first one applies and was arguably irrelevant by the time sugar got in
