Odd one...

I just assumed he would go back to Villa.

29, big wages, doesn't feel like a realistic Levy signing
No he'd need to take at least 100k pay drop for Levy to even consider it.. Levy will have bad feelings towards the recent Werner loan and probably feels he just paid 190k a week to just block off Mikey Moore's progress. Bringing in a Grealish/Sane/Rashford type on loan just feels way too short term for Levy, especially with all the young wingers we have who will want an opportunity to break in.

So you are saying that you are not sure that Danso won't be as good as Romero and then in your next sentence you say "He won't ever be as good on the ball as Romero"

As if being good on the ball isn't what male Romero unique in world football and also, on what planet is Danso going to be as good defensively or even better? He's a good player and I like him but you are in a fantasy land if you expect him to be a better defender than Romero.

Sorry, but you are.
The text makes perfect sense. The two are good at different aspects of the game. I'm not as sure as you seem to be that Danso will be a massive downgrade on Romero. He isn't as good offensively or with the ball at his feet - which is a big miss, true. But what I've seen so far suggests to me he may well develop to be better defensively. Romero is good when he's at his best, but as I implied in my original post, on average it's different. Even if Danso won't be as good a player, I think it could well be a lot closer than you do.

Crawling around on the floor against Bournemouth was beyond embarrassing.

There isn't one thing Danso is better than Romero at. One is world class and the other is a standard centre back. He'd be playing for Wolves if we didn't hijack last minute. Lets be realistic here. Chalk and cheese

  • 2025 EL Winner: 2025
  • FIFA World Cup: 2022
  • Copa América: 2021, 2024.
  • CONMEBOL–UEFA Cup of Champions: 2022.
He's World class, get over yourself about that fact. If he was a 7/10 he wouldn't play for Argentina.

Let's see if we don't miss him when he signs for Madrid.
In fairness, Gio Lo Celso has played a lot for the same Argentina team, and only missed being a WC winner due to injury.

Not as simple as you state tbh.

Though I agree Romero at his best is world class

He'd need to take that wage drop regardless of who he goes to. We won't pay that, Villa can't afford to pay that, nor can the majority of clubs in the PL.

Woolwich could but it's highly unlikely they'd bother. Chelsea wouldn't, as he's probably too old for them, so it only really leaves Utd as being stupid enough to maintain his current wage.

Grealish to Utd in 5... 4... 3...

All the reports I’ve read say that Athleti have only offered 45 mil plus 5 mil add ons. Now all you ‘want to sell Romero’ types ask yourself if you were in Levy’s position would you take that? It’s insulting to say the least. I’d rather keep him than be screwed over by Simeone who’s tapping him up. He’s a Spurs player ffs and Simeone is ringing him up all the time. Out of order. Fuck, I’d add another 5 mil on the price just for that alone. Next year he’ll have a year left and then we’d still get 45 mil.

Indeed, happy to let him go if they pay up, if they don't then that's that, would be more than happy if he stays anyway.

People live in this fantasy world where we will get 70m for Romero and then go and sign Adam Wharton from Crystal Palace with it, as if its some game of football manager. Just keep your best players!

Think their add-ons are far more attainable than ours for Kudus.

Only works if they continue to be your best players after you say they can't leave.
In most instances, they don't. And then you sell them for less, or lose them for nothing.

And the fantasy is that they behave after you deny their desire to leave.

I see the Veliz news is on the OS now.
Interesting there's about 1/8th of the wordage as there is for one of the women being sold to Chelsea.
Says a lot about how much the club think of Veliz IMO.
