We could spend that money plus a bit more on a better player. And it would be quite nice to watch Wet Spam financially flounce.

I'm not suggesting a narrative there at all... He's been arguably one of our better players, which is why it's so frustrating when he seemed so 'off it's earlier last season...
Whether it's playing through injury, or playing for his Country, he does prioritise the importance of Country over club (unless as we saw in the EL, it's the latter stages/Final of a Cup competition)
... but quite a lot of internationals of various nationality do.
