The more I look into MGW, the more i see an 8 in games we dominate possession. His advanced attacking stats aren’t anything amazing. And he’s defensive numbers are better than you’d expect.

That said the eye test and advanced stats tell a different story

I agree. I think we will see MGW in the double pivot alot and will probably see maddison drop deeper at times and MGW push on.

When you look at his highlights reels the thing that strikes me most is his ability to play forward passes from deep, all kinds of passes to spring an attack.
At brentford frank had a very specific buildup from goalkicks. They setup with a back 4 with the 2 cm' fairly close and central. They would play short keep ball, deliberately luring the opposition to press them. From there they would then play a longer pass forwards or carry out (to daamsguard or mbeuno) an then look to finish the move. MGW is perfect for the press breaking to then release to maddison, kudus, johnson and has the ability to play that pass consistently is right up there.
It's not only his passing or passing range he's got but he has a fairly unique ability to play.it instantly, no extra touches to set himself etc. He can play inside foot, outside, laces even when slightly off balance.

I'm not sure we will even get another cm this summer.

Our players haven't just started playing football mate

You might be poorly coached but that never explains the basic errors, or sloppiness.

I suspect without any basis for saying so,that 4 or 5 players from our current squad will be gone by next summer. Maybe more.

Totally agree mate. 99% of folks on here came out with the properly coached pish last season. These guys are on tens of thousands of pounds a week and couldn’t do the basics right at times. It’s as if Ange was the only manager they played under. Yes the system exposed a lot of them but controlling,passing and moving is a pre requisite of any footballer no matter the level.
I still think Bentancur will be big player for us next season.

Let's see.

The only thing for me will be seeing what being a winner of a major tournament does for the players. They have now got a sense of the level of adulation that comes with success.

But yes, for me, whilst Postecoglou set the team up in such a way as to leave players exposed, that's not an excuse for dogsh!t performances.

As stated a few times, 17th revealed much, including the fact that some of our players don't deserve another chance.
