Transfers The Summer Transfer Edging Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Luiz had 5 separate injuries for Juventus that led to him missing games (4 were muscle injuries). He missed 111 days and 20 games.

That's very worrying, even if his injury record at Villa was excellent. It would be a big risk.

Yes that could well be a concern. Afterall with the paratici to juve links we have aswell as him being free to leave juve at a good price this seemed like a fairly likely transfer for us. The fact we haven't moved yet gives the impression that we're not too keen.
I've said a few times before I'm not entirely sure we're going to buy a cm. We have bergvall, gray, bentancur and sarr that are sure to stay and will add MGW too so that's 5 for the 2 spots. I don't get the impression that Frank likes to make too many changes game to game so 5 is probably more than enough players for those 2 positions.

The pure 6 obsession is silly in my book. Everyone wants an elite 6. They are very rare. There are not many guys who can play as a solo 6 with everyone else bombing forward. Even the best ones of the most recent generation (Rodri, Busquets, and Casemiro) have had excellent midfield companions who don’t give the ball away cheaply as well as generous referees who don’t give them nearly the yellow cards they deserve for tactical fouls. That’s why the 4-2-3-1 became more popular because it gives you two players who can both be more all rounders or can complement each other. It’s less of a need for me since we won’t be playing suicidal Ange ball.
I can see Gray growing into this role and sooner rather than later. His positional adaptability shows how football intelligent he is.

Six - Biss (unless you are thinking he’s done). Although, for me, him and Bentancur have had their chances and not taken them. Sarr hanging on by his fingernails too.

Not for me mate.

I get why you’d say that but generally speaking we’ve seen him in a bunch of systems and we know that his ceiling is elite but the floor is diabolical and he’s not consistent across a full season.

He will do great in Türkiye and we can get some resale from him. He bows out a winner and always welcome back
Got to say a massive agree on this. Not just on pitch but too many off pitch dramas. He hasn’t got the elite mindset

Totally agree mate. 99% of folks on here came out with the properly coached pish last season. These guys are on tens of thousands of pounds a week and couldn’t do the basics right at times. It’s as if Ange was the only manager they played under. Yes the system exposed a lot of them but controlling, passing and moving is a pre requisite of any footballer no matter the level.
I still think Bentancur will be big player for us next season.
See this last bit is in direct oposition to your early a bit. At times last season Bentancur was utterly incapable of the basics either especiallythe movement bit. I'd be happy if we sold him and Bissouma. With Yeves the high point is higher than Bentancur but the low is lower neither of them deserve extensions.

Yes i excluded him because I think he's gotta go. He will never be consistent enough which is a shame because he has ability. I personally struggle to see sarr thriving under frank, the attributes he has don't fit imo but he can be afforded more time.
I think bentancur will be a key player and has alot to give. I feel with the mess of a system we had he was hung out to dry with always having to charge around trying to close big big gaps left by others.

New cryptic from Prof confirms we're pushing for Wharton:

News first, mate.
It sounds like there’s conflict aplenty.
Highly unlikely but not yet impossible.
Either way we’re showing laudable effort and ambition.

Conflict = war, aplenty = ton

Whether its an elite DM or a functional double pivot, its not just Ange. We've conceded 60+ 3 seasons straight. Most supporters overrated our back 4 and our midfield is not fit for a CL club.

Too much obsession with the attack. We will not get back in the mix until we cut goals conceded by at least 30%. Sacking Ange was only part of that.

That's because "Prof" is a pathetic, attention-seeking moron who could desperately do with a personality.

You see what happened there. I got you to type the words I was thinking.

Great player, just worry we will get run around in midfield a little but I wouldn't say no for sure! He is a little prone to injury also?

1 million percent would elevate us much closer to the top 3 with other business we've done/doing.

What sort of price would he cost? 80m?

He was absolutely shambolic in that role last season.

That's OTT.

You might be right, he could grow into it but based on last season - no chance

1. He was 18.
2. New league a step up from anything he's played before.
3. Without looking; he must have played little more than 200mins in MF last season.......

All things considered; it's ridiculous to expect him to have essentially hit the ground running and looked proficient in the 'engine room'..... Yet he looked mature, calm and (at times) good with the ball in doing so (see comp. vid in his thread for evidence)....

Based on last season (and accepting there's work to be done); there's every chance.

(Note: After 200mins in very similar circumstances Bergvall was being written off by the usual suspects; but by the end of the season, people were disappointed when he didn't get to start.)
