Interested to hear people thoughts on this.....

With Frank and his staff at the club and

With the 2 starting 11 signing we have made (providing MGW) gets done

Where do you see us placed this season? What is possible? And how far off troubling the top teams are we?
It is a much better squad than the squad that finished 5th. So if we get a reasonable run with injuries I'm thinking top four this season.

well know more after about 4-6 games. i dont think top 4 is unrealistic though, its a good squad.

if frank is the bollox and can squeeze every drop of juice out of it then it might even go better than top 4. liverpool, city and scum...none of them are elite lets get real. not saying we can win the league, but i think we can finish above the weakest one out of them 3, if everything works out well. city will struggle if rodri isnt fit.

exciting stuff, need this MGW shit resolved ASAP though.

Surely unless Eze gives assurances over his immediate future (seems unlikely) or we get this done lightning fast and put a snag in Woolwich's Eze negotiations the terms are going to be impossible to meet this summer, Palace have shown unwillingness to severely weaken themselves in one window and it would be terrible optics to rip the heart out of the team just as Glasner has won them their first ever trophy. With moves in the offing for Guehi and Eze I really think no chance Wharton happens until he gets closer to the end of his deal, they'll be looking to build the team around him for the next couple of seasons.

He was a useless footballer that would look like shit in any system. Always a few steps behind. Never in the right place. Always giving away the easy turnovers, always putting teammates in trouble by making alibi passes. But sometimes he could pick a long cross and score a goal a season.

No he wouldn't look good in Frank's system. He would look exactly like the useless player he is.
He’s not useless but he’s heavily flawed and not good enough for a top team

We are not in for Wharton.

Were we "in" for Kudus? No it just happened. Were we "in" for Gibbs-White? No, it would have just happened if it wasn't for their chairman being a complete freak.

It's clear that the club have their targets and they're just going for them.

We've also got 19 year old Archie Gray whose main position is CDM (people shitting the bed over him playing poorly at times choose to forget that he was played out of position by a manager who made all of our players look shit).

We've brought a manager in who is renowned for working with young players. Are we really going to sign a £50/60m English 21 year old CDM with potential to replace our £30m English 19 year old CDM with potential.

No.

he played poorly in the position you say is his prime position and did much better in the back 4 so what on earth are u chatting? He played most of his games at Leeds at RB and was a striker in youth football

When he played CDM vs Liverpool and Gala he was in that stranded CDM position but he was weak in the tackle and didn’t close spaces at all, and was robbed off the ball and didn’t have 360 awareness

"what on earth are u chatting?"

"I see myself as a midfielder," said Gray to the club website, external. "That is my ideal position but I don't put myself down to one position as I am a versatile player."

He can play RB. He put in good shifts there for us and did well there for Leeds, although the Championship is not the Premier League. He can play CB and up until around the halfway point of last season people were happy with the performances of an 18 year old being played out of position.

And fuck me... are you really criticising a 19 year old, who was playing as a 6 for one of the first times that season as part of a depleted Spurs side against the best team in the league away from home? We had Danso and Ben Davies playing CB...And as for "Gala" (I'm guessing you're talking about Galatasaray) I'm pretty sure played left back if I recall correctly.

I could see him as a box to box midfielder - great engine and graceful on the ball

Yes, analysing and criticising him for his performance vs Liverpool. Agree with the factors but he looked so ill suited. Small sample size for sure! I think he’s a player, I don’t think he will ever do what Wharton does, in terms of pivoting and chopping quick angled balls forward in front of the back 4

I get what you mean. RE Wharton, I like him a lot, I think he'd improve us and in an ideal world we'd get him but based on Spurs being Spurs, I find it hard to believe we'd go for him with the players we've currently got.

Especially when we've also spent £55m on Kudus, we're likely spending £60m on Gibbs-White. We need a left back to compete with Udogie and ideally a replacement for Richarlison. Although there's rumours of significant external investment this Summer, so who knows.

Wharton would sell for 80m or so right? That's what palace would settle for, can't see it being less.

I worry about value. An 80m player has to be truly transformative for a team. Would he be?

I see many other seem to favour a playing type 6 in the cm2 but id much prefer a pure destroyer. A sandro in his prime would do wonders for this team. You could put a pure destroyer next to MGW and have every single ingredient needed to compete.
