As a club we are at a crux. If we have big sponsorship money, if Charrington and Vinai are starting to push Levy to side then clearly things are changing but how far. £80-100m is sadly the price of an elite midfielder in the prem, Rice, Caciedo have shown this.

Wharton and Baleba are the biggest talents for what we need then it’s a step down to Palinhia and Larrson, at least that is the 4 targets that have I heard.

I have seen a lot of Wharton in his first season and the last of past of last. Can’t think of anyone in the 6 better with the ball apart from Rodri, he is also not poor defensively, he is an aggressive tackler he just isn’t a monster. Baleba is the Caicedo type so a totally different profile. Either way they will both be £70-100m range but they could dramatically change our midfield so it’s really ambition. Unless we find someone with the same potentially for cheaper from abroad but that is far riskier.

Still not fully bought into this investment story and Levy being moved aside.

60m for MGW is still within our previous range.

If we spend 70-80m on any player, I’d be shocked

Reading Real Madrid are looking to offer 80m euro (70m£) for Romero?
Should there be any truth in this then we should bite their arm off and immediately offer the same money for Guehi at Palace.

I really like Wharton too. But I think we'll get him for 70 or so million. This is Levy we're talking about!

It’s a mess at palace currently isn’t it with the new part owner coming in from America who is meant to be a terrible owner and their European situation. I suspect players are looking at it and thinking a move wouldn’t be so bad.

Further muttering from COYS, which I didn’t realise. He turned us down in 2024 before going to palace as he wanted game time and didn’t see it with us. Plus they like Bissouma, who I could see there. Would be a good singing for them.

£70/80m the price which feels a lot for a player with his injuries and who is a good player but isn’t amazing defensively. Surely there’s better value out there.

Agree...... Just doesn't seem like the right fit; more that he's just in vogue and the current hot cab off the rank.

Gray! I think this boy is a perfect 6, with Bergvall alone side him in the midfield. Granted Gray he had a couple of questionable games when he did eventually play there, but this boy has sooo much football intelligence I think he could play anywhere.

I'd like to see a double pivot of Gray and Bergvall, with the latter pushing on to support MGW and Kudus.
We don't need a new 6 imo. Put that money towards getting Esteve/Robinson.
Why not towards a striker ??

The injuries are my only concern with him. On the ball he would elevate our whole team. His composure, control and passing range is a step up. Yeh we could go cheaper but likely for far less quality.

The two main options for 6 are Wharton who is elite on the ball or Baleba who is elite off the ball. Either way it’s a huge price tag. I mean we could look at cheaper options like Palhina who I rate but it’s still a drop.

Why are they the "2 main options"?

The starting point should be the decision about what profile/skillset of player we need; not tossing about names based on who's hottest.

Wharton vs Baleba as a shortlist indicates an unfocused agenda..... I hope the club are approaching this differently.

Maybe there are others but we are talking about top draw midfielders here not potentials. There is already quite a bit of smoke around us wanting Wharton and Baleba is brilliant footballer in a similar role. The other players mentioned for the 6 appear to be a bit of a step down or more of a gamble. I am sure the club have a full list but an elite 6 is something every top team has, it’s an essential.
