Transfers The Summer Transfer Edging Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

If we have a great window , remains a big IF at this moment and we kick on and finish 3rd , ( wildly unrealistic in my view , 6th -8th more feasible) , does anyone believe we will go again in the summer window 2026. We have spent previously but always as a recovery exercise , if we do well and then go again that will be the sign of real change.
Depends what you mean by kick on. We clearly are far from the finished article but have a lot of young potentially good players but need a number of players. However if and I agree it is a big if we really compete at the top this year, then next year we should not be bringing in as many players. Fergie used to say that he liked to bring in2 players a season to freshen things up.
Teamwork is very important and keep changing many players each season is counter productive to team work. We need to this season but if we get back to competing at the top we should be looking to kick on by only buying 2 players but those players should be the very best and cost a lot including wages. Like when we won the double in 1961 and brought in Jimmy Greaves. You can only attract those players if you are one of the best teams in Europe.
Unfortunately we are a long way from being in that position.

If MGW gets completed this week and we sign Wharton - I don’t think we could ask for anymore than that this window. I would be very excited to see what Frank could do.

We would then likely be looking for a top striker and possibly keeper the following summer and the CBs may need replacing also. But it would be a step in the right direction

Anyone feeling comfortable now with how the window is going ? Getting in Kudus and MGW simultaneously was a bit disorienting for me. Now MGW has a question mark so we only have Kudus as a NEW addition to the team and we are in mid July I am underwhelmed. It’s the Levy comfort blanket , it has holes from being moth eaten and a massive sick stain but it’s what I know under ENIC . I still have hopes we get 3 or 4 more in incl MGW, however I won’t be throwing my mediocre transfer window comfort blanket in the bin just yet .

Seeing as it closes in another 6 weeks I think I'm fine.

Yep. We'll no doubt get MGH over the line which will make the window good to very good. Add someone like Wharton and it becomes a superb window.

No, I'm not underwhelmed.

In that case Palace would want us to bid dumb money and even with significant inestment I can't see us doing that.

You want any young elite midfielder be it Wharton or Baleba it’s going to be in the £80-100m range. It’s a very hard position to fill adequately, so like strikers there is a premium but those kinds of players can be transformative. We might be able to get one cheaper but it will be from abroad and the risk will be higher.

This elite word is being thrown around too much, Wharton hasn't even completed 50 PL matches, neither has he played any sort of European football, EL or CL, does he even have an England cap? Not to mention the groin injury that kept him out for half a season and I'm hering prices of £100m, mental.

I don't know if the club risk that much money on him going by all of that.

I agree if we sign 4 this window and we do well , maybe only two next summer , but has to be quality not make do signings . Then and only then will I believe things are changing

It’s ridiculous to say that Wharton is elite. He’s a good player but elite players need to be extra special. Go back to the 80s and 90s and clubs were littered with special players but the elite were Maradona,Platini ,Gazza ,Ronaldo and Zidane level. These guys nowadays are good players but nothing special. It’s the game nowadays but when I hear this elite pish or generational talent it’s laughable. I don’t who it was but they argued with me that Sarr is a generational talent. He wouldn’t get a game in reserve teams in the 80s and 90s.

Why do old people love Sketcher trainers?

I'm 42 and I fucking LOVE sketchers. They're super comfy!

Air-cooled memory foam....
