Wharton chose Palace over Spurs as he thought (rightly) he'd have a better chance of a lot of playing time.
Nothing to do with Gray or anything else., just playing time.

I think we will find Davies 1 year extension is an exercise in risk management.
Its still 50/50 whether we bring in a good LB or better still LB/LCB and let Davies go to another club or we retain Davies in PL ( but not CL) squad where we have plenty of space - playing time will depend upon need to rotate other players and injuries. He may also continue part time coaching in academy if not much playing time.

£60m MGW (to be confirmed)
£55m Kudos
£30m Tel
£22m Danso
£10m Vuskovic (not sure how much we paid)
£5m Takai
That’s £180m of incomings and a number of squad places taken. None of Vuskovic, Gray or Bergvall can be loaned if we want them to be CT as we need them to complete 3 years as a Spurs player before 21.
On the other side of the coin we have only sold PEH for £17m. So are roughly £160m in the red.
A few thoughts
- we need to get moving on getting players out of the club
- even if there has been £300m of investment this year this is not sustainable unless we can sell players for decent amounts.
- if the investment is coming from Saudi as rumoured, does that open the Saudi market for vending our unwanted players at extortionate prices like some of the other clubs with Saudi connections?
- I don’t think buying Wharton or someone more proven for £80m is realistic against this backdrop. Unless we have serious sales. £10m to £20m for Solomon, Richie, Biss, etc. ain’t cutting it.

If that 55m for richi rumours are true then that'll be a huge help in outgoings. Should get around 15m each for Bissouma and Soloman. Not sure if we will make much off the rest.
There is no way Palmeires are paying more than £10m for Richie. Unless they have a dumb owner like Textor.
More likely to sign Dybala and his image rights. Or Leandro Damiao.
