Oh well, there goes the Wharton idea

As if that was ever real in the first place

Happy Jonah Hill GIF

We need someone of quality for our starting 11. Ideally a cm for me. Perhaps we will have to wait until we've moved a couple on but I hope we can get MGW as 60m is a great price and he has alot of attributes we lack.

Complete different player but this team is screaming out for a banega. Remember him? What a player!
Shame the MGW deal was dead on arrival. The problem we have is Levy already thinks he fixed the problem. On top of that we got our 1 signing. Gray and Bergval have been blooded. MGW was opportunistic attempt at getting a player for less than his value now it has failed we won’t go back.

Dorrington will defo end up getting shifted IMO, you look at the amount of CBs we have in his way unless he can adapt to a different position seems very unlikely he will ever get a look-in being 7th or 8th choice CB.
Same with Phillips. They can't all make it.

Get them to a point where they shine in the Championship and then sell for 10-15m is probably best case scenario.

With Romero likely moving on nearish-term you're left with Vuskovic/VDV/Danso as the main men. We'd then bring another senior CB in once Romero goes.
Dragusin probably flogged as he's not good enough technically for a possession-based team.
Then it's Phillips/Dorrington/Takai staking a claim for 4th/5th choice, so two of those will be moved on ultimately.

I'm hopeful it will still happen but who knows. Window so far certainly doesn't scream ambition or closing the gap but I think it was probably expected to be a slow start with Frank and the new coaches having a look at the group and working out how to re-shape it.

If we get MGW and have alot of luck with injuries (lack of them) we will be alright.

I just hope people don't over expect from frank when let's be honest, we don't have a squad near the top 3 or 4 teams to compete.

It's disappointing but all we can do is hope and see.

Still holding out and hoping it will happen is being a baby

No it's not; it's just (some) fans being patient enough to see what unfolds.

You think sulking on the internet changes whatever the scenario is between the 2 clubs behind the scenes?

and refusing to accept the reality of another persons behavior

If they want to act like that, be the adult in the situation and walk away. It’s not like there aren’t other options out there.

60m is probably an overpay for MGW anyway.

All your "I don't want him now... The fun's being taken out of it" nonsense is childish pouting.

If the club want him then they'll persevere however they see necessary. Meanwhile; if/when THEY feel the deal is dead they'll walk away. It's unfortunate you're struggling with that premise; but that's a you problem.

Another massive transfer for Liverpool

Pure coincidence that they haven’t struggled with any legal shit and crazy owners. I don’t understand how they can do it? They don’t even have petro state owners, this isn’t meant to be possible

They didn't spend for years until now after winning the title. Their fans wanted the owners gone for years.

Same with Woolwich. They didn't start spending big until they got in a title race.

You have to prove that you can compete at the highest level to convince top players to sign for you.

If the club are confident in getting deals done for alternative targets well in advance of the league campaign kicking off I can't see the harm in seeing how the situation with Forest plays out. We never tend to get any meaningful news over the weekend so I'm guessing we'll learn early in the week which way this one is going, I'm still fairly confident he will sign, I really don't think £60m is an overpay at all either, they spent £42m on him (assuming the add-ons have been met by now, with Forest's achievements in the last couple of seasons) and are raging that they probably only stand to break even on him when you include wages paid and agent fees.
We are not really in the position of clubs like Liverpool who can wince at the £150m asking price of Isak and go spend £85m on Ekitike because that's more palatable, I imagine MGW is the top target and best profile fit for what Frank wants and there is likely a significant drop in quality or more of a tactical compromise required to fit the "option B" into his system, I would rather the club seek to attain their primary targets with conviction rather than settle for an inadequate alternative who will need replacing in 2-3 years time, likely under a new manager. The fact the MGW bid was revealed before we had wrapped up the signing of Kudus it's clear we are not working on one deal at a time, and whether we sign MGW or not will have little bearing on who we sign in other positions if we have a budget in mind per position which will only narrowly fluctuate depending on other positions going over or under budget.

I could end up with egg on my face from this assessment but I think the large scale changes at board level, consistent willingness to spend £200m+ net in the summer window means we are not done spending and will bring at least 1 or 2 more at first team level as well as MGW or an alternative at CM. Hoping we can get a fee however nominal for Gil and if Solomon isn't fancied by Frank we get rid while his stock is high and we can add £20m to the coffers.

200m net?

Yeah that’s not it.

They both spent big to get into title races
Maybe I'm misremembering but Liverpool only signed Chiesa last season who didnt even play for them.

and Woolwich bought Jesus and Zinchenko that season, similar quality and cost of players we were looking into that same season.

The big spending came afterwards. That's how they are both able to attract top players now.

Liverpool bought their title winning spine before they had a run at the title

They were quiet last summer that’s true but the way they are investing this summer just shows that the big boys have come to play and ENIC are just too small time to keep up

First transfer window with Spurs eh?
