No, he was not referring literally to him carrying the ball. Eric as often was using a rhetorical flourish. Similar to the great Chris Waddle telling Carlton Palmer his job was to move the piano Waddle's to play it. Deschamp won the ball covered runners and gave it to the talent. He literally fetched the water. Abd Dembele repeatedly tops pros lists of the best natural footballer they ever encountered.

I've never previously considered it an insult..... I certainly wouldn't have applied it to Dembele if so.

If that's how it essentially plays out, who would you hold responsible?

Let's get there first, but I think with legitimacy that questions would need to be asked.

Put this way, if the Gobbs-White saga was us seeking to complete the squad puzzle I would be reasonably relaxed, with a view that the squad was all but ready.

At present and as I have stated,in my opinion we are short by 2 or 3, and whilst a few clubs are also failing to add, none of those clubs finished a pathetic 17th.

We need CMs who can pass the ball and receive under pressure.

Palinha is neither of those.

Hes a good ball winner for a team that sits deep and looks to counter.

At 30 it would be as meh as meh gets imo

Yes.
Cause there is inherent value of having exclusively players 17-25.
It automatically makes the side better (and 30yo players inherently worse) right?

Fucksake.

We also need a player that can close down the channels and win back the ball.
Not all of our midfielders have to have Maddisson passing range/creativity.

Palinha would be an amazing signing, most proven and high quality than literally any of the alternative.

Can't hide my disappointment and frustration that MGW hasn't adopted the same stubborn approach as Marinakis/Forest and downed tools to force this move.
Any financial set back for doing so I'm sure could have been covered by Spurs over his 4/5 year deal?

I'm not too hot on Palhinha. I think he's very limited on the ball and his he's suspect in the air, he loses a lot of aerial balls and 50/50s - I think he's an excellent destroyer and will put out a lot of fires for us so our defensive numbers will improve a lot but boy oh boy we're gonna have problems breaking down a low block and progressing the ball

I think as a short term option it's fine but for a long term option we need someone better, not at least someone who is able to progress the ball from that area.

doesnt want to ruin his relationship with the club or their fans with is fair.
Unfortunately for us and perhaps for him you need to sometimes act like a cunt in order to get a move. Even Kane pulled a cunt card out of the deck to try and get a man city move. Doesnt always work but it can help as the coach thinks its just not worth hanging on to someone half arsed and disruptive

I share your reservations about Palhinha; but if he's supporting Madz & Berg and we lack creativity, doesn't that ask sterner questions about the latter 2?

Our window has been a mess as usual so far

Going both ways , not enough quality through the door and no where near enough out either

It's looking increasingly likely that we go into the new season with pretty much the exact squad that finished 17th plus Kudus

Competent manager will make a difference but this squad is nowhere near good enough to compete in the champions League and Prem

Miles off what we needed as usual
It's absolutely shocking.
Scandalous, even...all things considered

No because the questions will come when he's on the ball and needs to play between the lines, the same questions have been asked of players like Declan Rice when he has the ball and isn't able to progress the ball quick enough before the oppo defence gets settled.

I get that but as you say sometimes act like a cunt, especially when everyone (Marinakis) else is!

Have we kept our powder dry today?
