Transfers The Summer Transfer Edging Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

So bored of this MGW shit now. It was a really nice and welcome suprise when we moved for him a couple of weeks ago, and now it's just dragged on and it really doesn't look like he's coming here.

What I am more worried about, is how quiet it is on other targets.

All our rivals doing huge business, we are nearly in August now and we've signed one player after finishing 17th.

It's fucking shocking it really is. Same old shite under ENIC.

Our rivals aren't Liverpool, Chelsea, Woolwich and City, but your point is correct in that the Gibbs-White saga is boring.

Our rivals- United, Villa, Newcastle, haven't done too much as yet in truth.

Why does it look like he's not coming here? What changed?

I just feel the longer it goes on the more unlikely it is. Last week I thought it would get done, but it hasn't happened. Looks like he is joining up on tour with Forest later in the week.

Marinakis has made a big song and dance how unhappy he is, I can't see him selling MGW this window. I reckon they will long it out and try to get him to sign a new contract which he will probably do when the window closes.

This suppose release clause, it was either triggered or it wasn't. By the looks of it, it wasn't, and so he's going nowhere.

Maybe I am just a bit pessimistic about it, but we haven't done anywhere near enough this window and we really need to sort it out.

I'm sure there is a genuine private reason for him not going i.e. his missus is pregnant.

But you'd imagine MGW is hoping he doesn't have to join up with them at all and that this all gets sorted before he has to get on any plane. He won't be in a rush to join up with them anyway! This is probably as close as we are going to get to him forcing the transfer. His Forest reputation clearly means alot to him so he needs to hide behind something.

It'll get brought to court then unless MGW's agent admits to leaking confidential info. One side has broken contract now. Either the agent leaked confidential info or else Forest have no right to block this transfer.

They can't just let it go past the deadline without resolving it. Because if Forest can't prove that terms were broken, then they broke his contract by refusing to let him go. There is alot of moving parts here and a lot of people who could sue Forest. MGW and his agents for having their contract broken, Spurs for not getting a player they were entitled to get, even Wolves are entitled to 6m from this transfer - it'll be a disaster for them if MGW stays and runs down his contract because the owner is saying the release clause is voided without proof! He needs proof or he'll be getting a lot of lawsuits!

It's not shocking as it's not a surprise.

Bare minimum FC.

We will make more signings, MGW or not. But we're not making moves to seriously compete for top 4 in the league or CL, despite what Levy said.

It will be steady, incremental squad upgrade + new manager bounce and hope for the best. As it always is.

And the latter 2 finished how far ahead of us last season?
Also, wouldn't call Cunha + Mbuemo doing nothing. Two massive attacking upgrades for United.

It's us that need to close the gap, not them.

The 4 clubs mentioned will challenge for the title in my opinion.

The secondary group of 3 won't.

Therefore our rivals are not the first group, and neither Villa or United were so much better than us that I see the gap as unbridgable.

Newcastle are in the middle if I am being fair.

but they never really settled on what the problem is no? is it the double secret release clause or spurs illegal contact? i really think the FGC is just making a fuss for reasons only he knows. in my opinion he didn't like the optics of selling their two best players days apart and knew he could make waves with the release clause drama. but like has been said repeatedly, at some point mgw is going to have to push back against the breach of contract or just stay put. does he want to come to spurs or keep the forest fans happy?

If we had ended our interest in MGW it would have been reported.

This is the "chicken period" of the transfer. Who blinks first shit.

When we do end our interest it will be in the media so chill.

It's the lack of other business that is slightly worrying me. We need more than just Kudus and MGW (should it happen)

If the same old sh!t reference to ENIC is that we aren't moving more quickly in the transfer market. I agree to an extent.

If the reference is that ENIC should have offered more for Gibbs-White than his clause, then you and anyone else can do one.

It's no different to saying to a prospective buyer of one our players, if you bid 50million we will sell. They bid 50 million and we say nope, it's now 51 million. Fcuk that sh!t.

A clause is the minimum value that must be bid, and its maximum, unless the buyer is an idiot.

My concern if we are wanting to compete at the highest end is that it's not enough, which is different from being okay, which I think we will be but nothing more, without quality reinforcements.

Any contract of this length would be more than likely indexed linked (like your mobile phone contract) or have review breaks built in.
While thats possibly true (certainly in other markets) I've not seen such in stadium naming rights (admittedly I'm not an expert or professional in that industry).

And, of course, this was in response to a complete hypothetical that definitely didn't make mention of anything more than a 20y contract.

In any event, we're not selling the naming rights until we sell a minority share of the club, at least. I'm sure Levy plans to continue dangling it as a sweetener, though clearly its not all that appealing.

Hard to trust any of these Forest journalists. They've shown the last few weeks that they are just mouthpieces for the owner.

But wouldn't surprise me if true. MGW wanted City at the start of the Summer so personal terms probably not an issue. The question is, would City be willing to pay the 70m or whatever Forest want since the owner is claiming the release clause is void? Or do City just come in with the 60m too which surely will just annoy the owner even more!

My hunch is Forest are exaggerating these links to put some pressure on us to pay more as they are already resigned to losing MGW.

Yeah I mean it has all gone far too quiet from our end. I wouldnt be surprised if we have given up and moved on.
