Transfers The Summer Transfer Edging Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Some deals do seem fast. But it may just be that - seem fast. We’ve no idea when Liverpool first picked up the phone to Frankfurt to say that they like the look of that Ekitike lad. Could have been months ago.

One thing is for sure. I’ve never read or heard a manager, DoF, scout, player, chairman or journalist say “transfers? Fucking piece of piss mate. Five minutes, bosh, done!”

Every single interview I’ve ever clapped eyes or ears on have said the exact opposite. Transfers, particularly at the higher end of the financial scale, are months of work.

However, the experts on here think it’s simple as they’ve played FM, or switches like the Ekitike one seem to happen quickly. I know who I believe, and it’s not the TFC brain trust.
So all these transfers deals take a long time, I would agree they can . Yet we throw around bids on deadline day . The most recent example being Guehi , knowing Palace need lots of time to replace him . Seems like these bids as many of us believe are a total waste of time and are nothing more than pathetic PR stunts then by our beloved Daniel .

...well if it was any later than the night 60,000 of us 'liked the look of him' when we played Frankfurt last season, then we missed a trick!!!

He has organised a second game on Saturday at 11 am so he can have a look at a few of them.
Both games on Spursplay for actual/real fans interested.
You can bet your bottom dollar 90% of the anti-ENIC cult won't be watching.
But will show up in this thread to sneer later.
The game is about the glory (of being a moany little bitch on an internet forum slagging off a little bald fella for 13 hours a day)

It's funny how our standards for getting a prominent place in the team are:

Eye-wateringly expensive new signing: Great
Totally unproven homegrown kid with mixed results on loan: Also Great
Existing squad player: Absolutely unacceptable

Fans innit.
The Academy have been winning leagues and cups and they are stacked with players that regularly perform well at international level. It's not like they are trying to develop Lee Barnard or Jonathan Obika any more.

It's not hard to understand.

We bought fairly cheap and well, for once, and it all came together under Poch. He built them players into a very good system, although interestingly, none of them went on to do anything much of note elsewhere after they left us apart from Walker, which I think showed how well Poch did.

Depends what you call 'of note', because nearly everyone who left us has won stuff since them.

Eriksen won Serie A, and FA Cup, a League Cup, and had two europa league finals
Lamela won the Europa League
Kane won the Bundesliga
Toby won 3 trophies in Belgium
Verts won the league with Benfica
Trippier won La Liga and also now has a League Cup
Davinson Sanchez is a two time turkish super lig winner and has two domestic cups
Foyth won the Europa League
Aurier won the league in turkey and also a cup there, plus captained an AFCON win
CCV cleaned up at Celtic and has 9 domestic honours now
Dier won the Bundesliga
Wanyama won the championship in Canada
Llorente won the Coppa Italia
Janssen won a few things in Mexico and Belgium

It's always equal and opposite hyperbole with you isn't it?

Spurs are rich, no Spurs are SKINT

The transfer market is everything, no the transfer market is MEANINGLESS

It's literally the point that squad chemistry trumps individual accomplishments. Find an example of teams that won things with massive upheavals and compare the trends.

The transfer window basically was created by sky to keep you all obsessed with the media year round

So bored of this transfer window.

No wonder that 66/1 chat Frank had post presser resulted in him saying 7th would be something he would take. If this is the state of things come August the 16th start to worry that it’s ENIC again and forever.

You do know a transfer is more than just shouting a number in the general direction of the other team though?

Were we in touch with Palace about Guehi in 2022? Maybe we spoke to Chelsea about him in 2019? More likely, we spoke to Palace and / or his agent earlier in the window and negotiations carried on longer than we’d have hoped. Maybe, we’d been given the go ahead if Palace had got their replacement that they’d been speaking to over the line, but that didn’t happen as the club they were signing from didn’t get their replacement in. Because, transfers = difficult.

Even more likely, we didn’t make an offer at all, it was just paper talk.

I’d say all these are more likely than the owner of a football club just being tricksy to try to get some positive PR. You’d agree if you weren’t so blinded by your dislike for the man.
