Transfers The Summer Transfer Edging Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

irony.

explain to me how your brains work here. "something else" and "trolling" for pointing out that liverpool have held back on big spends to have budget for this summer.

What did they spend last summer versus us?

:frankthink:

Facts and data make people nervous....... It challenges them to face preconceptions and look deeper.

Had to make do with Ledley King, Dimitar Berbatov Luka Modric, Gareth Bale and Rafa Van Der Vaart.

All of which is relative to context. Bale was a jinx until he was unlocked by Redknapp.

Despite a shitshow of a league we still had several players standing out in the team as quality. It's just highly selective and fickle to be implying that we have a team of no particular quality.

Whilst they are different players, Johnson scored more goals last season than Bale did in all but one of his seasons with us, and yet to many he's of no value to the team. Solanke got 16 goals with next to no service and tactics that did nothing for him and to most people on here he's useless too. That's more than van der Vaart got in a season.

You'd not think this was a spurs forum

TBF we did have Berba, Modric, Bale, Rafa at diff times.

This team does need a new 'hero' (fuck the notion of "stars")....... Are they here already? ....Perhaps/perhaps not.

A team with a standout star is typically one that lacks quality everywhere imo. If we have one player digging the rest of the team out, that's a sign of failure rather than success, and leads to the argument of finding it difficult to 'replace' an individual.

We currently dont have anyone outside of possibly Romero (when he's on it) to lace that lot boots. I dont see how its somehow anti Tottenham to want to watch better players, a better team and enjoy our hobby a bit more than over the last 6 seasons. No ones demading to win the league, just be seriously competitive.

Currently:

Maddison, Son, Richarlison, Solanke, Johnson, Odobert, Kudus, Tel, Gil, Soloman, Kulusevski, Bissouma, Sarr, Bergvall, Bentancur.

That's 15 players in attack and midfield. How on earth is that 'horrendous depth'.

Hmmmmmmm.....

Whilst I am bored with the agendas that are only too clear, and which were quelled after the Europa win, none of those gets in a 16-man best Prem team. Nowhere near at present.

And in the biggest games, against the best opponents, and in tight games, with packed defences,I am unconvinced.

Lets talk in specifics then...

Lets say we bring in Gibbs White.....

Give positions or name where you want us to bring in to be 'seriously competitive without winning the league'

I didn't say "anti tottenham" but thinking the worst of the players is hardly what you expect of the site.

Since when is van der ven not one of the best defenders in the league all of a sudden? He's been better than Romero and is literally immortalised in the cup final with his goal line clearance. He's likely, at this rate, to be up there with Ledley as our all action hero.

The whole point is that people are basing the ability of these players based on how they were forced to play under Ange, and are ignoring the fact that despite being set up for 22 PL losses, they managed to somehow play really well individually in a game where overall we played shite, and to win a cup none of those other so-named gods whose boots they cannot lace did not.

It's the kind of thing where people still haven't learnt from the AVB era, where several players who were "not good enough" went on to be some of our best PL era players, all because of team form skewing the perception of individual ability

They Won the league last season, something as a club we can only dream of happening , yet they are going out and backing the manager as they don't want it to be a singular event, they want to win it again this season and the CL as well, us on the other hand finished 17th , yet we managed to secure CL football and we are dithering around as usual.

Still I guess its a moot point as we can't consider Clubs like Liverpool our rivals anymore, I guess we should just be happy that Newcastle might be losing Isak and Villa haven't bought anyone yet so if we have a good season we can give that 5th place spot a real go! :davieshmm:

Liverpool were below us in 2015.
Liverpool were our rivals in Poch time
Liverpool edged ahead of us in 2020s
Liverpool finished 46 points above us last season.

And here you are , saying forget all this 10 years of divergence - you want all that changed in 1 summer ....

Laughable....

In our hearts, we still see Liverpool as rivals. But current players like Isak want to join them, even if it means his starting place is not guaranteed because they already bought Ekiteke.

Stop being in denial first.

Accept we are not Liverpool rivals here & now....then we can start bridging the gap
Accept that bridging gap isnt going to happen overnight in one window, how much ever new money that is poured in.

In the last 3 years, fact is also, we let Newcastle, Villa to get the better of us.
Task 1 is to get back to the 5th and put the gap in between 5th & 6th.

Then, we improve and challenge there on

I get it, some of you hate saying, we cant improve in 1 summer - I say welcome to the real world

How is that the definition of 'horrendous depth' though??

99% of the leagues players wouldn't get into a 16 man best PL team. That's a very strange argument to use

Lets be honest though the ones highlighted you wouldn't miss ( it pains me to put Son in that category but as a club we should be being ruthless and not relying on him next season, what also worries me is Tel hasn't shown anything yet to even suggest he could give us half of what Sonny has over the years, so if he is the Son replacement then I'm worried. )

You missed Moore of your list , not sure he is ready yet either but look how Bergvail surprised us!

What worries me though is we can't be relying on the likes of Richie to be backup to Solanke, again good player but just never fit, I'd like to see us go out and get a replacement for the Good but just inconsistent Biss , and someone to replace Sonny and someone to challenge Solanke.

What frustrates me is I actually think we have the makings of a really good squad, and it would only take a couple more signings to give Frank all the tools he needs.

Kudus , MGW , Son replacement , Richie Replacement and someone to challenge Udogie for LB and it would be a really good window.

This is what you call mental gymnastics.

This BTW all came from your absolute bullshit of not believing that we put in a bid for MGW and now you've ended up tying yourself in knots with this crap, bravo.
Ignore his nonsense, he’s just baiting IMHO.

We saw it with some of his crazy takes post Ange sacking.

I’m still waiting for the flurry of transfer requests and mass exodus of players he so vehemently predicted!
