personally I think all this spending is becoming a joke and it wont be long before we see a breakaway "super League"

Levy trying to get in this time around

The point being made was that other managers had weak squads as well, I don't think it's a strawman to point out that this isn't necessarily the whole truth.

As another poster points out, it's doubtful any of our present squad, would currently get in an all-time Spurs Premier League team.

Many of them are young though and while some of them may well turn out to be Bale or Modric level players, a couple of older more experienced additions would probably help both the team and individuals improve.

Ange said as much after the cup final. The problem is that our board sometimes seem to only judge a player on their resale value, as opposed to what they can bring to the team.

It was a straw man, and you're actually supporting my point with it, because the original thing was that we used to finish 8th or higher with worse squad. The rebuttal was:

Yes, but we had peak Kane and Son to bale us out most of the time. This squad does not have two of the greatest PL attackers in their prime.

So the argument was that this side doesn't have "two of the greatest PL attackers in their prime". People then go on to point out other players that are also not that. Van der vaart was miles off it. Bale was just one player. Berbatov was a wizard but gets no where near the list of 'greatest PL attackers'.

So the point still remains that having "two of the greatest PL attackers in their prime" was nothing to do with our previous finishes either. The absolute core of this team finished 5th a couple of seasons ago. For most of last season people were adamant it was injuries that were the main cause of our league form.

And now, some kind of Mandela effect is in place to suggest that we never had a top-8 side in the first place, and I guess the implied cause is that the players are too crap for that. I have no idea if that's some kind of mental gynastics to let ange off the hook, but people were reeling off stats where we would have won the title with romero and vdv fit not too many weeks ago

What is the ambition for 2025/26 ?
Do you realistically see a serious title challenge , even in case if we get this new money with a new coach at helm and coming on back of finishing 16th (some 46 pts behind Liverpool) ?

Even with oil money, it took City 3 seasons to win the PL title.

Give me Gibbs White, Paulhinha or Luiz and I will settle for this summer window. Dont care one bit if Liverpool are buying Isak & Ekiteke together.... Or Chelsea buying their 13th forward player...

If we get Gibbs White, Paulhinha or Luiz, then my ambition for club is compete across all competitions and get into CL qualification again and then push more for 2026/27 season

Spot on regards suicidal high line…..with fullbacks inverted so Romero and Micky had to cover out wide as well thereby weakening our central defence and without a top defensive midfield player to help plug the gap.

The Chelsea game was, effectively, the one where the whole league saw through it. We basically played a 2-7-1 tactic, and it seems people can't see how you can have the best defenders in the world with that and still have the perception of an awful defence.

Personally, I would give Richy till Jan to see if he can stay injury free.
It depends how much we could get for him and who we would be buying to replace him, I think he is a very good player when fit, its just he never seems to stay fit (for us) I remember the same conversations around GLC, maybe if we had a good player in mind to replace Sonny then it wouldn't be so risky to keep Richie.

My worry is the Sonny replacement is Tel , who hasn't done anything yet to show us he is even fit to Lace Son's boots, don't get me wrong he might still come good but I would have rather taken the risk on Moore last season and seeing what he could do instead of Tel.

Let me remind again, we already outscored Villa last season in a shite of a season. We already outscored every one bar Liverpool in Feb, when we gave up on PL.

So, lets not pretend we are utter shit side. We are not. We have been mismanaged for last 2 yrs on so many front.

On defensive side, let me say none of you would want us to spend on our back5 replacement....Porro, Romero,VDV,Udogie,Vicario is still majoritys back5....we needed depth and we have it in CB. We wont play suicide football, so we dont need explosive LCBs.

If defensive side of things is also more than ok , the problem to address is midfield.

So, yes 2 proper signings in midfield will improve this side a long way.

Personally I want a better no6 than Paulhinha. But if its him, I dont have a big issue

What an awful post.

Bullshit. You're comparing two completely different era's you clown. The market prices then are incomparable to the market prices today.

Stop running the club down and belittling our past magnificence.
.... Where 'To dare is to Do' actually meant something

We used to be trailblazers in the transfer market. In fact we smashed the all time British transfer record to sign Jimmy Greaves. In his absolute prime

Imagine the excitement that would have given our fans who were around at the time. Bazali Bazali ?

Imagine this cunt :levystare:smashing the British transfer record 😆 ..or beating off Alex Fergusons Man Utd to sign the mercurial talent that was Paul Gascoigne lol

The only records he smashes are boardroom salaries and chairman bonuses

Did Liverpool overtook us by mindless spending ? NOPE

Did Woolwich overtook us by mindless spending ? NOPE

They did overspend on 1 or 2 quality players once in every 3 windows...which I welcome and want it at Spurs too.
Liverpool and the Scum have both overtaken us and spent a lot of money on fees and more importantly wages.

They spend on 1 player, what we spend on 3 or 4 so do fuck up.
