Transfers The Summer Transfer Edging Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I do get the optics aren’t great, but I also get that I don’t know how conversation flows within the team. Maybe Frank likes having Lange around so they can chat new players and strategies over a coffee, or on the side of the training pitch. This in person contact is maybe more important than in person contact with other clubs or players that aren’t ours yet. Fuck knows why he’s there, but I have to assume there’s a good reason.
The reason is we act like fucking clowns.
It's not a good reason, but it is a reason.
If we go into the start of the season signing one player as European champions it's beyond a disgrace. The fans need to make a stance like nothing we seen before we finished 17th for god sake.
We're Europa League Champions. Not European Champions.
Let's not act like West Ham.

We do, we do!!

Ask yourself this question: How many in our starting 11 would get into a PL-title winning team???
I'm not happy at all about the lack of activity from the club, and it's easy to fall into doom mode, but I do also occasionally have to remind myself that I'm expecting an improvement from most, if not all, of the current squad from last years aberration. Will it make us title challengers, almost certainly not, but there is definitely improvement to be had even within the exact same squad.

As for a PL title winning team?

Vicario vs Kasper Schmeichel
Porro vs Danny Simpson
Romero vs Wes Morgan
VDV vs Robert Huth
Udogie vs Christian Fuchs
Kudus vs Marc Albrighton
Bentancur or Bergval vs Danny Drinkwater
Bissouma vs Kante
Maddison vs Mahrez
Johnson vs Shinji Okazaki
Solanke vs Jamie Vardy

It's not a clean sweep obviously, but I'd say on ability alone that combined XI would be heavilty weighted towards the current Spurs squad.

Not for one second do I think we are winning the League with this lot, but evaluating players isn't as easy as would they get in a title winning side, and last years performance should be viewed as this lots floor, not their ceiling.

That Leicester team would probably finish 7th or so in the modern era, the league is completely different from 10 years ago when they miraculously won it.

Maybe it is. We don’t know. I’m possibly remembering, with rose tinted glasses, the talk of “Big Ange called me and convinced me to come” talk from previous windows. Maybe Frank requested Lange come on the trip?

I do know that in my business, if one of the most important members of my team wants to travel somewhere, he’d better have a fucking good reason and not just be going for a jolly. Doubt we operate differently to that. Is there a world where the famously tight arsed Levy says to Lange “aye, just come along - we’ll have a few drinks and a bit of a laugh, don’t be worrying about the day job”.
Tax write off maybe? But yeah, we don't know. All I know is I'd have told him: "the transfer window closes in four or five weeks time; you just brought in one first team player; we need more. You stay in London, get us some good players, make us look good. You've got my number, call me if you need anything, but I better see some results when I get back"

Their actions don't fill me with optimism; and I am, by nature, an optimist!

Anyway, I respect your opinion and I've had my say on the matter and will end it there. Cheers

I’d suggest their general incompetence and lack of urgency led them to go on a tour when they aren’t playing or coaching and have much more pressing things to do in the CET zone
It's getting annoying that we go on these tours when it's clear that money spinning is the prime objective, and preparing for the season ahead is merely a secondary concern that they fit in around media duties.

In doing so we sacrifice:

- Concerted preparation for the season to come;
- Progression of transfer activity;
- A Supercup fixture against the SAM continental competition winners with another trophy (however minor) up for grabs;
- Proper rest and recuperation due to time-zones/travel time.

I'd say hopefully this all ends once Son leaves, but the likelihood is it doesn't, as the club will want to cling on to the Sonny afterglow for as long as possible, and will be hoping that Yang captures the imagination over there in a similar fashion. Also plenty of other clubs do it despite not having the ties tat we do due to Son.

I suppose at least we're playing proper opposition and an XI made up of part time sailors from Shanghai this time around.

Also have a concerning correlation with massive injury crises during the season

Only yesterday I wrote the CL thing is a myth. Long since been the case. Only idiots think it matters.

I'm unimpressed by our activity so far and whilst I think our squad is decent, it's nowhere near good enough to provide expectation of glory.

It's not just money that players want. I think some of any desire to join a club is a sense of direction of travel and intention.

Frank will have to undo some of the perception, but needs better resources to bring that about.

Football players aren’t all idiots.

They know if a ‘project’ has good money and ambition behind it.

Chelsea before Abramovich where West London West Ham, Man City where a Bolton/Wigan level side. All got big funding and as it was mostly prior to PSR they could overspend on players wages/agents/transfers with the clear message they are buying a great team.

Most players looking at us are not expecting the ownership to buy a strong side so they would expect 4-10th place finishes if they joined. I would expect if the club had a buyout players that might not have come might now come to us if they know we are buying a strong team.
