Transfers The Summer Transfer Edging Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Would be good to know what Lange is doing out there, what’s his exact function out in Hong Kong - why can he talk to prospective players digitally but has to speak to Frank/Levy face to face.
I'd assume that their focus is on buying a 20 y/o Hongkonger for £100 in the hope he'll generate £100m in shirt sales. Apparently the west wing of Levy"s summer residency hasn't been renovated in 2 years.

How many years have we been trying to get rid of Gil from this squad? Incredible that he is still here, I wonder if we will extend his contract again for another season. He could end up one of our longest serving players.

It’s a shame our own academy players all have to go out on loan but we buy youngsters from other clubs for substantial fees and they get minutes in first team. Most are not good enough but still get preferred to our youngsters. We won’t know if they are any good with our first team players.
I don't really subscribe to this argument. The issue stems from recruitment. We don't play our youth players because they're absolutely not good enough. Madueke is the only one you could say 'slipped through the net'. The rest are all playing in the lower divisions and in some rare cases for struggling premier league clubs.

You can't just play youth because they're there. They have to be good enough, and our academy is absolutely not good enough.

The comparison just doesn’t work at all, is the thing.
The point is that people lust after players that seem to do well in weaker leagues.

In this case, it is lusting after a player that just been "ok" in a weaker league. We can use Kane as a pretty useful yard stick in that regard. He is far more prolific in the Bundesliga. Considering Sesko isn't that prolific in the Bundesliga, I can't see him doing better in the PL. Thus, a 10 goal per season level player. For £70m.

It's in the Vlahovic zone of "players who don't deserve the hype". Expensive at £30m.

Well right, THAT'S the question with Sesko.

You look at target man-type true 9's who have been successful in the PL and it's a list of guys who were pouring in bucketloads of goals in the "weaker" leagues they'd come from. Van Nistelrooy, Aubameyang, Haaland, Suarez, etc. (Isak is a counterexample I suppose, who is a player one might compare Sesko to)

Leipzig were short of goals last year, and their center forward is a 60M player?

My money would definitely be on Gyokeres being the superior import.

I don't necessarily subscribe to this argument tbh, I think it's the culture of the club that stymies a lot of our youth players' careers, trust and belief in a player goes a hell of a long way towards their early development, and bigger clubs in our league afford far better opportunities to their youth players than we do. Quansah is never a £35m player, if we signed Quansah for that much people on here would be fucking fuming, Harvey Elliott is probably a £20m player but would you be surprised if they get £40m+? Neither are likely good enough for Liverpool long term but they have been given ample opportunities to show their worth in the first team, something basically none of our youth players ever get.
Not one Leicester City fan was raving about how Kane would end up being a goalscoring sensation when he came back from them on loan, but a bit of faith and some meaningful minutes in strong lineups gave him the platform to become the player he did. In the position we're in I would like to see more meaningful minutes given to someone like Donley who actually had a very good loan and is 20, so ripe for some PL experience, but what's the likelihood he ends up in the championship? Could it be that he's not good enough? Possibly so, would we likely be getting £25-30m if we gave him say 50 apps in a Spurs shirt over 2-3 seasons instead of farming him out on loan to the championship until the last year of his deal and selling him to a championship club for a pittance? Almost certainly.
For a club that seems to be going all in on youth development over the near term we seem to really have a one-track approach to it, everything with a player hinges on whether they can start 50 games a season for Spurs or else do they need to be on loan at a level that basically does not benefit them whatsoever, wasting whatever early potential they may or may not have had? Making £60-100m a season on academy players that are not good enough would be a huge boon in the market, one afforded to clubs like Chavs and Liverpool that we seem intent on ignoring.

There’s a probably a reason we struggle to loan our youngsters. They’re not as good as we think they are
