Transfers The Summer Transfer Edging Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

i'm actually ok with a straight loan for palhinha. if he has a good year we'd miss out on the value he'd reacquire with us but he's higher risk at his age and you have to take into consideration that a serious football club like bayern wants to dump him. even if he doesn't set the league on fire he'll influence grey and bergvall i think too
He’ll want to get into Portugal’s team for the World Cup. This sort of established player who won’t be getting regular football but wants a chance to get into the World Cup squad this summer is a good profile for us to target. In fact it’s part of how we got the likes of Van de Vaart, who was pissed he lost his starting place in the Dutch team and agitated for a move away from RM.

Supporters need to get away from going on about our league position last season. It was false and because of the injuries and resting players for the Europa. Levy said he wants to win the PL but not when. It will certainly not be this season. Yes we do need at least 1 more first team starter, a couple of squad loan players which could include Palhinha. We should then be in the mix for 5-8th position. Last season there was only 5 points between 5th & 8th and only small margins determine between those positions.
Money is not the reason we cannot attract the elite players. Kane was offered top wages but wanted to be at a Club that would win things. We have won the Europa but we need to show that we look likely to win more and become a fixture in the top 4. That will take a couple of years of achievement before the elite would consider us.

I share the increasingly popular opinion that we need a DLP rather than a destroyer and Palhinha is a rather pointless signing.

Lack of graft, industry and defensive contribution is not what comes to mind if you want to critique our current CM’s. None of them are truly incisive passers however.

Yep - if we had closed MGW would be much less of an issue as he’s such a positive player that gets on the ball regardless.

I wonder if TF is still assessing him because he had a decent season at Leeds. If he confirms he is not at the required level then I think he will go. I saw flashes of a good player but he always was injured so much at Spurs

He's injured.

No cunt's gonna splash on him till he's got fit again.

It's why I'm not horrified by the idea of Wissa yes he's 29 but Richarlison is never fit and Wissa is a better goal scorer than Solanke. Neither are top bracket but it's obvious we will not spend the money for elite. I'd now be happy with Kudus, Wissa, Lookman, Ederson

Have we been linked to Ederson again?

That'd be nice.

Gray has not convinced me yet that he can hold down a place in midfield. He played well at RB and should adapt better to Frank's way of using FB's. I would use Gray & Spence as the cover for FB's and spend the money on Midfield and striker.
I think it's fair to say that the theory of "Brentford made massive bids on both Johnson and Gray, therefore they will be at the center of Frank's plans" has not come to fruition.

Frank's job was to make a football team out of what the Brentford recruitment operation gave him, same job he's been hired for here, and Johnson and Gray aren't starters at present.

pissing money away is the price of admission to the higher levels
Yeah, the reality is the higher you go the more difficult it is to find players suiting the level. No one beside Madrid, and now City and PSG, have ever been able to afford to buy all proven top quality players.

So there's always some risk, some more than others. Financially we're on the fringes of that top level, so we tend to take more risk - no surprise we get burnt more often.

Its part of why our wage:revenue ratio is low, as well. Too many of our expensive signings turn into flops.

Here is a list of all the players we bought and then sold since 2012.
The most profit we made was £18 mill on Tripps. Next was Wimmer with £10 mill.
We have made a cumulative loss of £350 mill on transfers.
Only made a profit on 13 out of 54.
Edit: Put Gil in as I assumed he will leave.

I will try to explain this failure just taking Sissoko as an example...

May 2016 - Mane comes to Spurs training ground ,very much open to move & play once again with Poch. We offer him 80k he asks for 130k a week. We drag it on hoping he will sign for Poch

June 2016 - Liverpool swoop in him and give him a salary of 110k a week and pay transfer fee 30m + 6m addon

31 Aug 2016 - After fuking around for the entire window, to appease Poch, Levy signs Sissoko on last day of window for.... 30m fee giving him 80k a week

In essence, we lose out a player who our manager desperately wanted to a rival who was finishing under us....because we were trying to squeeze out 1 to 2m from his wages...

Fast forward 5 years, Sissoko walks away on free transfer winning nothing....and giving away that pen in CL final to very same Mane.

On otherhand, Mane wins EFL cup, FA cup, PL , CL , Club world cup...and then gets sold to Bayern for 27m....

Failure of these transfers all have 1 underlying thing : We fuck around trying to penny pinch and let good players go to our rivals and then settling for 2nd or 3rd choice...who mope around for 4 years and go for less winning nothing....

Honestly in the current climate, particularly in Britain, it's probably fair to think there will be some hesitation about signing an Israeli.

Not a topic anyone would want to broach in this thread, but that's precisely why clubs would be skittish about bringing him into the fold. It's just not a discourse anyone wants to touch.

One hopes Leeds might be an exception, but we'll see, him being hurt absolutely does not help.
