Transfers The Summer Transfer Edging Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

“they fell off” is not an explanation. You’re just describing the fact they finished lower or higher using different words.

I’m asking for an explanation and you don’t have one.

What should happen now is that you reconsider the things that did change and the factors necessary for success.

Logically -

Success = Things you’re considering + things you aren’t considering

You are overvaluing the first part of the equation.
Just out of interest and off topic why at the psg ground does it have ' ici c'est paris (here it's paris)? Do they not like using st germain and why?

You think you’re much more intelligent than you are and it’s a problem.

The factors were other teams did worse and they killed it early. You seem to think you can apply this to Spurs when it’s not a reliable thing to win stuff at all.

We also weren’t third, we were seventeenth, so we have much further to make up. I doubt they’d have signed nobody if they’d been in a similarly drastic situation.

But hey, I expect a top 4 finish minimum this season.
The other teams did worse despite strengthening through the transfer market?

So it’s possible to strengthen using the transfer market and do worse and it’s possible to not strengthen and do better?

Sounds like the transfer market must be a small part of the equation.

By the way - I haven’t told you how intelligent I think I am. When I do, you’ll know.

All I’ve done is ask questions to probe reality. It is more complex and nuanced than most people here make out. But it’s a football forum so…

You're a nuancer then?

It crops up a lot these days.

The transfer market is a huge part of the equation, otherwise Van Djik, Alisson, Salah etc wouldn’t have won them the title. And they wouldn’t be spending hundreds of millions in this window if they as a club didn’t recognise the importance of signing well.

It won’t always directly impact the upcoming season as loads of factors come in to a single season but the most successful, elite clubs do elite club stuff in the transfer market.

You can pretend otherwise but it just makes you sound thick as fuck.

Yeah looking at Liverpool more broadly, now that TAA is off (and Elliott and perhaps Quansah look to be following him) they have a high-priced outside transfer acquisition purchased as a senior player to be an immediate contributor in their current role occupying basically every role in their squad, they are 15-16 deep with those guys, with Andy Robertson and maaaaybe Curtis Jones and Joe Gomez representing exceptions.

The Liverpool story is MORE predicated on just straight up "we are going into the transfer market and paying top dollar for the best solution at every position" than the typical great team.

Ok so what other factors go into a successful season?

You’ve said it won’t always be the transfer window. A lot of people are saying the transfer window is the key to having a good season this year.

Hopefully next week can get a top quality forward player.
