Last week I posted quite a positive post and was feeling quite optimistic. But now frustration is getting to me as well.
But for entirely different reasons than for others. Not because we are not spending 80-90-100 mil for players nor 350 mil in total.
Because I do not see strategy anymore AND cause we do not seem to be that interested in giving some young lads the chance I was hoping they would get. I mean - yea, EPL and CL are extremely demanding leagues. I get it. But players like Moore and Vuskovic seem very much absolute top talents that could at least play some part in them as well. And Donley was spectacular in lower levels, is a HG lad who could play different positions. If we shift all of them out right away then... whats the point really?
To make it more specific, I'd highlight 3 my main WTFs :
1) CB position and Vuskovic - now I read that we are looking at loaning out Vuskovic and bringing in another senior CB. I mean Luka was supposed to be generational talent. And our CB options right now are - VDV, Romero, Danso, Dragusin, Davies + Vuskovic and Takai. Why even bring him Vuskovic and Takai when we do not trust them to be 6TH CHOICE CB for us?!?! Why? Once we bring in another, they will be possibly 7th choice. They have no place in team unless number of others would leave. I would obviously be on board if we'd bring in Guehi, for example. But we all know we are going for some 2nd-rate-under-the-radar-almost player. Which gives us nothing but costs us lot of money.
2) Donley, #10 and long term future of that position - well, yeh, Madders injury REALLY sucks. Like really-really. I was waiting for him to be one of the stars of the season clearly. Him and Kulu being both injured sucks even more. But when we now bring in 3rd senior #10 .. then what the fuck are we supposed to do since January when Madders and Kulu are back ?!? Play with 3 number 10s?!? Cause neither Kulu nor Madders just are not wingers. Someone asked in much more agenda-driven way that "would people be still happy with no number 10 coming in" - I have to say - I will be puzzled if we bring another in. Unless we know for a fact that Madders and Kulu will be both out for more than 3 months of the season. Why not try bring in #10 and #8 hybrid player who could fill both positions and give Donley a real go there? Or even Bergvall? In long term view hoarding 3 senior players for 1 position is recipe for questions like "why are we unable to sell our players" - cause you'd have too many players in one position, none can really shine, all look like shit and will leave on free transfer.
3) Total lack of strategy in winger department - so now it is clear- Son will be leaving. And for matter of it - I think it is right decision too. But now - this had to be on cards for long time. AND we lacked the edge in that position even in last season WITH Son. We had brought in Odobert in start of last season. Then we brought on Tel on loan and Yang permanently. And then made Tel permanent in this summer. That means - right now we have lot of numbers but ... who will start?!? Kudus on one wing. And another? Like in CB position, I would like a clear idea - we have some top quality players. And then some hungry youngsters trying to push it. In CB's we will ship out youngsters and bring in B-level player for resource wasting. In winger position we struggle with starters and have large number of "maybe-hopefully-someday" players. Instead of planning things ahead and having brought one 70-80 mil player instead of Odobert+Tel who neither seem like really good options here.
So at this point it just all seems quite messed up and I feel we're gonna have really unbalanced and not really logical squad to take into new season.
