I of course agree with the spirit of this, but I am also absolutely not going to let the Trump Cup convince me they are somehow title contenders, I really don't believe they are.

It took the Boehly Devil Luck they keep getting to nick CL.
I don't think Chelsea are going to win the league, don't think anyone here does. And even though their owners are mental, I'd rather have them than Baldemort.

We've been treading water for a good 5 years and that's all we'll do with them in charge. At least they're actually going for it.

Someone that doesn't know football and spending bog like them > someone that doesn't know football and spending like Levy.

I’m off to bed , but there was a time all pre ENIC when we could and did sign players . Even the loathed Sugar who took over the club in a far worse mess than ENIC signed Klinsman, a signing that towers over any and every Levy signing .
Sorry but that is such conjecture it's unreal, by what metric is Klinsmann a better signing than Son, Bale, Modric? Son is a club legend who gave us 10 years of outstanding service, Modric is a Ballon D'or winner and Bale's last season as a permanent Tottenham Hotspur player will be remembered for decades by Tottenham fans as one of the most scintillating displays of individual dominance in our entire history. Klinsmann was at best a Van Der Vaart, Ginola level signing, we finished 7th and won nothing in his 1 permanent season here, yes he bagged 30 goals but immediately left for Bayern when they came calling, all we were to him was an opportunity to bag himself a late-career renaissance after a poor last season at Monaco.

The idea that everyone still lauds over a 1-in-2 striker that screwed the club over after one season shows the reality of what that signing was and the circumstances around it.

Even more bonkers that you seem to hold him in higher esteem than Bale or Son
You're moving the goal post you melt. It's the fact that he was one of the biggest names in football at the time, and an owner very much maligned, was able to get him. How he behaved/performed has no bearing and they're talking about the ambition.

Which of course you know, but you always argue in riddles that dance around the subject.

He didn't say better.

Kinsman was one of the biggest names in football at the time. None of the guys you mentioned were when Spurs signed them. Jesus Christ.

My point was about at the time of signing , attracting the biggest players . As I have said above Modric , Bale and Son dwarf Klinsman in their importance to Spurs . None of them however were a big name signing at the time

Only player I can see who might be available who can do that is Akliouche. He has it all. But Monaco quoted PSG €70m.

Otherwise Paqueta or El Khannous maybe ???

Like you say, MGW was perfect but it’s tough now.

Leeds fans seem to think they have a real chance at landing El Khannous. Not sure how much to read into that

Lukewarm on Paqueta. This he's another box to box guy. Offensive output isn't impressive.

We got him for £2m off Monaco, he had struggled there in his last season, was 29 and had a bad injury the year prior, they finished 9th in Ligue 1, we made more money selling Vinny Samways in the same window. Anyone who thinks that was a big money superstar signing is kidding themselves, it was an opportunistic punt that worked out very well, we finished 15th in 93/94, if he was such a global superstar he would not have been coming to us.

12 days until the season starts and still have to play Davies at LB and it's looking like no #10. With everyday going by another option is taken off the table (Enzo Millot Today).

We urgently need these 2 signings.
This window has been an unmitigated shambles up til this point and I don't care , you are on the payroll in my mind if you disagree with this assessment

Van Der Vaart came from RM and scored 15 goals from 36 games from midfield in his first season, including playing for us in the CL, it's a signing at least on par with Klinsmann IMO. 109 caps for the Netherlands when they were still a very good team, he was a star to the same degree.

Again, he was one of the biggest names at the time, just came off a world cup scoring 5 goals.

It was absolutely a statement signing at the time and no matter how much you try and swing it, that's a fact.

Username checks out, well done.

Ultimately at least Chelsea identify talented players to buy and they do show ambition. They are trying to change football. It’s not good and I don’t support it but they are doing something and committing to a project and strategy.

We do fuck all and somehow have a WORSE squad than last season despite gaining CL football, it’s an absolute joke

He was a player of a global reputation/technical level no one would have expected to be seeing plying his trade in England.

That was true of Ardiles and Villa in 1978 (and kind of true of Glenn Hoddle in a different sort of way), still true of Klinsmann in 1994, arguably still true to an extent of people like David Ginola or Edgar Davids.

The Premier League had probably become too dominant for that to be true of Van der Vaart in 2012, and it's definitely an anachronism now.
