I was certainly there.

I suggest your post above is to avoid your embarrassment at not knowing how big the decline in Spurs overall squad quality was during the 90's disguised by peaks such as winning League Cup in 1999.

And whilst we were never a League team, we sure didn't have such a poor run of league positions from about 1992 to 2004 back in our peak days.

So I guess that also means you were not as joyful at our return to europe under Jol and missed out on the exultation I and other Spurs fans felt at a great away win v Besiktas in our first match back in europe (bar 2 under Graham) for many a year. Billy Nick used to say 'if we're not in Europe, we're nothing' but maybe you were not around to hear that
My only embarrassment is for you.

I don't believe you were watching Spurs during this period because your account of what you remember is so flakey.

The 91 / 92 team was a Terry Venables team. The same team that finished 3rd in 89/90 and won the F.A. Cup in 90/91. The only difference was that Paul Gascoigne was missing because of the serious knee injury he suffered in the 91 cup final against Forest. However, the squad contained Gascoigne, Lineker and Paul Stewart who all left the club at the end of the season.

You conflate this team, and the transitional 92/93 team, with the League Cup winning side of 1999 which is just batshit.

I'm pretty sure that Justin Edinburgh and Ian Walker were the only players in the 99 League Cup winning team who were in and around the first team in 90 / 91 or 91 / 92. Anderton also played in the 99 League Cup final but he arrived in the summer of 92.

Carr and Campbell were youth team players in 92.

The decline in quality, that you reference, began during the 95/96 season after Klinsmann, Barmby and Popescu were sold. Sheringham wasn't far behind them; leaving in the summer of 97.

The fact that you can't remember any of this confirms my belief that your support for Spurs either began after this period or you were just a bit fickle.

I was living and breathing Spurs during this period which is why I can recall the vibe, the players and the significant games which all of your anecdotal bluster lacks.

Fixxy's loving it though so....

Keep going.
