Surprised how many people are going "£69 million, that's far too expensive"

Levy really has done a number on this fanbase. 69 million is entirely reasonable for a player of his level and potential.

Fucking hell, other clubs are signing players for 80/90/100 million who aren't as proven or as high potential as Savio is.

If the club really are baulking at paying that type of fee to replace Son, we might as well fold the club and all go home.

Not sure what price fans think you can buy a player like Savio for. What do you think City will sell him to us for 50 million? really? LOL.

Not to mention it's a negotiation. We bid 45, they say 69. We probably meet at £60 million plus add ons.

A) that's how negotiating works.

Tottenham "would you be interested in selling is Savinho?"
City "not really, but we'll listen"
Tottenham "one"
City "one what?"
Tottenham "pound"
City "it needs to have 8 numbers Daniel and not start with a one"
Tottenham "ok, ok, 20 million"
City "no"
Tottenham "20.5 million?"
City "80 million"
Tottenham "80 million what, yen?"
City "Euros, we'll wait while you logon to xe.com"
Tottenham "deep breath £55m"
City " £65m"
Tottenham puffs cheeks "£60m?"
City "Throw in £5m more if you qualify for the CL and he gets 10 goals and it's a deal"
Tottenham - "we tried"

B) - we can do that and probably will with his low wages

This seems like a pretty compelling case that we do in fact have leverage, right?
Yes. But Levy has a history of trying to exploit leverage to the nth degree and messing up the deal.

We had leverage on a much younger Grealish, when it seemed Villa needed to sell and the player only wanted Spurs. We were tight with his agents too.

IIRC Levy kept trying to drive the price ever lower, Suddenly, Villa were bought by new owners, and they insisted Grealish was no longer for sale. He signed a contract with a £100 million release clause, Pep paid it, and proceeded to coach the flair out of him...

Anyway, the relevant point is that Levy overplayed his hand by trying to exploit the leverage he had.

For me Levy has a history of thinking and acting like he has leverage in situations where it's clear to the rest of us that he doesn't.

But this is one of those situations where I think we actually have the upper hand.

It’s not that is it, it’s the fact they’re fucking average PL players for stupid fees. I bet you we could find you as good a player abroad for a third of the price. On top of that I bet he bombs. He scored one fucking goal!
