What you said makes sense. It’s quite something, then, that a fan on a Spurs forum sees this but Levy & Co seem to have been oblivious to it or unprepared for it.

Of course, I stand to be proven wrong if they actually show now that they have a Plan B ready to go, given the supposedly apparent risks with Eze.
Woolwich played everyone by pretending they'd to sell in order to buy. That was clearly a lie. They had the wriggle room all along or else they'd be in PSR trouble now. I think its fair to assume that Eze and his agents were constantly keeping Woolwich in the loop in the hope they would hijack.

It made no sense to me why the deal wasn't finalized last week. People kept saying "oh wait for palace to get their replacement" and "oh these deals take time" but something stank all along. Woolwich were always looming in the background.

Hold on. In this case what can they do? Not try to sign Eze at all? They tried and hoped Woolwich wouldn’t come in for him but they did. I don’t get what the club were expected to do in this case? We tried but the player chose elsewhere. We can’t control what Woolwich can do unfortunately.

Hence the 2nd part of my post. What now? Or was Eze the only game and something they were so confident in, despite Woolwich being in the picture as you and others have pointed out. We do still need a 10, right, or was Eze just opportunistic?

The longer it went on, the less likely it was.

We needed a here we go basically as soon as the interest was public, and even then Woolwich may have hijacked it

Apparently Ramsey from Villa was our Eze back up plan (we prefer a homegrown to replace maddison).

And of course Newcastle signed Ramsey during our 8 days of negotiations. So that explains why the club are now panicking!

WTF is Lange actually doing this summer? Because it didn't require a data nerd to highlight MGW or Eze, and we haven't even been signing any promising kids to fill out the youth squads, we've also loaned out all of our more promising kids.

Has he just sat around for 3 months lamenting to the tea lady how much he hates his job???

FFS, Levy's one redeeming feature is supposed to be developing infrastructure, how does he continue to surround himself with these absolute dunces off the pitch?

From what I saw last season, Dibling looked good. How good he can be is the question, and whether we can carry further potential.
that would be the worry. Whether he needs better players around him to give him the platform to grow and will the fans to give him the breating space. I still like the idea of buying top talent. I just don’t think we’ve done it that well and we just haven’t married it with ready made quality.

Woolwich spending under Arteta is near £1b, with sales only at £230m. Either they're going to have to make big sales over the next couple of windows or they're getting punished by PSR. They're second biggest sale is still Anelka.

We aren't a top 4 side anymore, and we're on the cusp of falling out of top 6. Our place will be fighting for 6-8th place, hoping we pinch 5th, and if we don't the manager will pay the price. Easier to get a new manager in and give him a signing or two than back up properly.

Ange was sold down the river, somehow won us a trophy but was hung out to try. Same for every other manager before him.
