Transfers The Summer Transfer Edging Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Here's my guess on what happened.

Eze was set on Woolwich earlier in the window, but things did not move forward (maybe Woolwich too was waiting for the release clause to expire to get a better deal).

It looked like Woolwich was not going to pursue the player, so we expressed interest, which was welcomed by Palace and the player. Was this because they wanted to jolt Woolwich into coming back in for him, or was it because they genuinely thought this was the best deal for them? We have no idea (and this is the key point - no one really knows and you can make assumptions all you want).

Woolwich does end up bidding for the player and, since Eze's heart was set on them, naturally the deal with Woolwich happens.

Should we have not tried to sign him just because there was an earlier link with Woolwich? If we didn't everyone would be moaning that we are not trying. We tried and got gazzumped because Eze wanted Woolwich and everyone is moaning that it was foolish to try. In retrospect, yes it was. But at the time we had a clear path to sign the player. This is not the first time that this happens in transfers. We've done it to other teams ourselves.

That's all there is to it. Blame whomever you want, but this is not unusual. People are just getting more worked up about it because of the MGW fiasco earlier in the window.
I don't think the MGW issue is the reason people are upset about Eze. In sales and negotiations there are closers and there are people who can't seem to get deals done. If Spurs had pressed the issue by triggering the release clause early on, one of two things would have happened. Either we would have the player or if he didn't want to come directly we could have pivoted. Being too clever by half, which is a hallmark of Spurs transfer negotiations, left them without the player and with less time and fewer available (and attainable) targets. Then there is the fact Crystal Palace worked with Woolwich to deceive Spurs into thinking the negotiation was about a game that, ultimately, Eze didn't play in. Think through the implications of that, in terms of whether our chief negotiator has the goodwill and credibility within football to be effective. No putting a happy face on any of this, this was amaturish.

Indeed, spot on.

Frank talking the honourable talk but it will be him that gets the chop when results and performances are poor and the fans are wanting action.
Hes currently not got anywhere near the tools that are required for top 8.

Who will get the blame for that?
He’s lost 60 goals from a side that finished 17th. The scum owners should have been preparing partial sales of the club to create investments of c.£500M this summer but no…. Same old same old, sell before we buy, try and get maximum value on every day deal regardless of losing Kulu, Maddison and Son.

A hiding Saturday and go 1-0 down vs Bournemouth and hopefully people will be claiming the stands to get him. This could turn very, very quickly

I know sometimes there is debate around this under previous manager but there cannot be any doubt if we don’t sign two top attackers, Frank has been thrown under the bus. I know we’ve always been left one or two short every window but to leave such a critical area such as left wing and number 10 empty and basically relying on kids who have proven nothing is outrageous.

Our attack is midtable quality as it stands. No other top club would fuck their manager over like Levy has so far with Frank. He does it every single time the cunt

There is no chance this happens. We all know the drill now with these pricks. There is no ambitious intention to bring any in.

He's been to see Klopp's fake teeth guy since he managed us, hasn't he?
Steve Martin Q GIF

Don’t see us getting both Paz and Alikouche

Prob one and then Dibbling or BEK as the backup 10
I would be happy with both. I think we have a chance, if Levy can stop all the silly stuff.

We have the money and we have the capability too.

I think we can get Savinho, and ship the players we don't. It just takes Levy to act in the best interest of the club, and not his ego. Not every negotiation has to be a battle to the death.

And if Levy doesn't pay up, then it will cost us more in the long run, when we are not getting money from playing in the CL or EL, domestic cup runs and finishing money.

Fighting at the top, means you get the finances to keep fighting at the top, making you more attractive to a greater number of better quality players, and when you invest from a position of strength, it becomes cheaper, as you are not spending extra hundreds of millions playing catch up, you purchase wisely in areas that need upgrading.

We all cry about Man City and the players they get, but they can do that, as unlike us, they are not having to rebuild the bloody team every season.

It’s fucking stupid that managers still have to answer those questions.

Lange and Vinai should be giving PC at the least after the shit show they’ve done so far

Agree, there's nothing a manager can say either way that is going to sound right. And, they mainly have zero control of that transfer situation.

But they have to take the questions and talk while saying nothing, which is a skill in and of itself.

Just pay the 40 million and get Paqueta you bald prick. We need a 10 (two actually) but at least one. You build a side through the spine. These days if I was assembling a team I would start with the best 6 I could get then it’s GK and CB then 10, 9 and 8. After that it’s wingers and lb/rb.

Why didn’t we have a list of preferred 10s at the start of the TW? We went for MGW, missed out and since then have stumbled about like a blind man in a china shop. Fucking indecisive, ill prepared amateurs.

What i don't like is the club let him or Palace string us along, we should have put the offer on the table and if the club & Player didn't accept it then we move on, start acting like a fucking big Club!
Well we might not even qualify for European football next season if we don't improve now, which would mean we'd be an even less attractive club for any top players to join then. Having just recently won the Europa League and are in the CL, this should be the club's optimal time to push on.
