Transfers The Summer Transfer Edging Thread 2025

Just thought about the downside of buying Paz, from a Madrid aspect.

They get half of any Nico Paz fee paid, in their clause with Como. So £60m means £30m to Madrid, provided they don’t exercise their buyback clause.

But think about the Savinho deal - that is rumored to be dependent on a Rodrygo sale from City to Madrid, right? If we suddenly hand Madrid £30m for Paz, that puts them in a situation where they don’t have to sell Rodrygo as much and can hold out for more… which puts the Savinho move at risk.

I’m seeing an awkward game of musical chairs playing out here and it’s not likely to work in our favour.
But I think they ultimately will want to sell Rodrygo as he’s their third choice LW, and this summer they can get the most value for him. Another year of sitting on the bench will bring down his value.

A much bigger problem is that City hierarchy may just rate Savinho too highly.

No. Savinho deal is not dependent on Rodyrgo. We get Savinho if City decide to sell / we offer high enough. If we sign Sav, they may decide to go in for Rodrygo or they may not.

In terms of Paz, it makes sense for them to sell this summer and make 35 million or they get nothing next summer when Madrid take him back.

Madrid may say to Paz, stay at Como and we will take you back next summer and then either try to flip him or make him a squad player. But, we may be able to entice Paz with a big salary increase, CL football and a starring role in the PL. I very much doubt we will bother trying to do a complex deal if the player and his agents haven’t already given us the green light.

So then it’s down to Como. And their choice is sell and make decent money now or get nothing next summer. Question is, can we offer enough for them to went to sell now as opposed to them keeping the player for one more year and foregoing all that money.

Straightforward then.

Real Madrid don't need money like a lot of other teams. Neither of these deals are dependent/failing because of either or.

Real will be more concerned about losing a player they see as one of their brightest prospects however.

If we get to 1st September without an experienced no 10, we may as well bin off this season as long as we do not get relegated and look forward to 26/27. We will have Kula & Maddison back, the young players in the side and on loan will have improved and be ready for PL. We can look forward to getting rid of some dross and not buy anyone and without the burden of Europe finally get Levy’s dream of winning the PL. 😬
Thats the earliest “Season over” I’ve heard in a while.

Sorry, but that's the most dramatic and outrageous response to missing out on MGW and Eze yet!

I think Real actually do need money. Florentino and co are kept up at night by the Prem’s finances. Even with them and Barca basically stealing all of the La Liga TV deal money, they still can’t compete financially. The days of ‘he’ll mature into a star with you and then come to us’ are quietly going.

Notice how they’ve started picking up a lot more free transfers where they tapped up an elite Prem player who was running his deal down in recent years (Rudiger, TAA would’ve been free if not for the CWC, Konate is pending). Look at how they’ve never totally dropped the Super League stuff that will cement their position in the football world.

They need the money.

how would you sell someone on Paz btw? Is there a singular match to watch that signals “he’s a star”? I would love for him to be the answer, I just don’t watch enough Serie A.
