If the reported previous offer is correct than it seems as though paz was next in line after MGW fell through.
Im presuming once our offer was turned down we baulked at the asking price from como and stepped away. Suddenly eze looked like the best deal in terms of value.

Now eze has gone we are going back for paz but will have to overpay for him. 70m euros is 60m pounds and thats an overpay for what he is right now, id say 50m maximum.

Having said that he is a quality player and could quite easily make a huge leap forward just as doue, barcola have done since stepping up.

He did not look out of place in his Argentina debut coming on v Bolivia. He is big and strong enough to cope in the pl and has that argie toughness about him.

Agree, I think that was the clubs train of thought. SO many factors come in when deciding who to bring in.

MGW top choice, Paz second but deal became too expensive for a 20 year old, so we pivoted to Eze who is proven in this league, at his peak, and represented better value, but we probably felt Paz has the higher ceiling as a player, but he probably wouldn't make the immediate impact Eze would make, or of course MGW.

Plus the homegrown element played a part.

I just hope we can get the Paz deal done.

SO much to do this week, I just think we have left ourselves far too much to do.

Can't wait for the meltdown when Romano tweets after a chastening defeat to City, that City have rejected our final bid for Savinho.

LOL. We can never have nice things.

It's the penultimate weekend of the transfer window.

A few weeks ago when some were bemoaning inactivity, not so much high expenditure, the refrain from some of those who have since lost their voice was there are weeks left.

Well there is now only 8 days to conduct the business that should simply be at the point where we can seek to snare a player, because they happen to be available. Woolwich did exactly that for reference, albeit forced.

I genuinely dont think we necessarily have to spend large amounts, unless it's a proven special player, but to leave us scrambling around again, is unforgivable, and then to see largish suns being spent on too many players who aren't ready is just a dereliction of responsible duty.

The post-transfer period must be spent overhauling a clearly flawed approach.

I literally have no idea what the bolded part actually means? Your sentence above was in response to this passage of text I wrote:

I do still expect a big season from Odobert, and him and Savio as our LWFs will be great. Not sure where that leaves Brennan Johnson and Mathys Tel. A sensible club might have sold (or not bought) one of them to help fund a seriously good #10 earlier in the summer.

How am I "raising his (Johnson's) presence"?

I simply do not think that we need Kudus, Savio, Odobert, Kulusevski, Johnson AND Tel as WF options. And I would consider sacrificing one of Tel or Johnson if it meant we could get Savio in (as I think he is a better WF) AND a # 10 (as we are desperate for one). That is just my opinion and not 'bias', and certainly does not invalidate my post in any way, shape or form.

It is my observation on the clubs' inability to get rid of players whilst their stock is high (e.g. Johnson) in addition to our our confused squad building approach where we stockpile players we do not really need (Tel), which hampers our ability to get players we really want (Savio) or need (#10).

For the record, I would rather we had not signed Tel and had been able to bid much higher for MGW. Of the 2 playerd, I think Johnson offers more than Tel (although I would not start Johnson if we had Kudus and Savio, and he'd mainly be used as an impact sub off the bench).

And don't get me started on Gil, Solomon etc. ;)

And yet you mention Johnson again. Bizarre. In any sense of the word or for the sake of common sense, in a squad who lack goals, you can't can in by selling your prime goalscorer.

If anything with Johnson, bone possible option or solution is to play him (at times) behind Rucharlison or Solanke.

Man City already agreed terms with the player. Probably haggled it down £10m or so but he was off. Deal collapsed when the charges came out.

20/3/25
“West Ham United have set a price of £85 million for Lucas Paqueta with Manchester City having so far bid substantially below that figure.
“The amount equates to a release clause in Paqueta’s contract and although that is not active until next year, it is understood to be the figure that West Ham will find acceptable now.

Broken record time but can everyone please STOP OBSESSING OVER TRANSFER FEES!!!

Nico Paz is on €3-400k per year at Como!

Read that again…. And think about it.

We’d have been paying Eze close to £10m per year. Not €, £!!

We could offer Paz €2m per year and save close to £8.5m PER YEAR FOR 5 YEARS. Thats a transfer that is £42m cheaper straight off the bat.

Who gives a flying fuck if we pay €50m €60m or even €70m???

Stop buying Levy’s bullshit hiding behind transfer fees.

Levy is a dinosaur. Stuck in the past where he could pick up good players for cheap. The games moved on. You have to pay good money to get good players. Until he leaves nothing changes. Its sad. Hes holding the club back, but he cant see it.

I don't agree he has to leave. He might need to change his role, and to allow certain expenditure.

I think it's becoming clear that for top players (there aren't that many in my opinion), you have to push the boat out.

I am still however of the view that you only pay for proven high grade options. Way too many players are stealing a massive salary and yet are so average by comparison to the very best.

Ok ok I agree.

I too dont care what the transfer fee is.

I am simply coming from the angle of managing EXPECTATIONS.

Most people dont have a clue who nico paz is. If/when they see us buying him for 60m pounds most will be expecting a top top quality player for that, but hes not quite there yet. I am simply managing people expectations on what to expect from paz because people can be so overly critical and harsh on young players.

Edit. And just to add im not buying anybodys bullshit! Im well aware we can afford to spend around 300m without breaking psr rules so I dont need telling about that.
I have been banging on about buying savinho no matter the price, even for 70m which most have baulked and laughed at. So dont jump to conclusions on people's viewpoint with regards to spending money on players cz youve that that very wrong with me!

Fuck expectations

A lot of very deliberate work goes into managing Spurs fans expectations. We don’t need to manage them ourselves, they will do that for you if you allow it.

But they offered us all an exit clause for that when Levy said we NEED to win the PL and CL. That is the expectation now

His contract expires June 2027 with a 1 year option to extend….

If he genuinely cared about the "Football Club" itself...you know, the team we all support, he would have gone years ago.

He'd rather be in control himself and see the team fail than see somebody else making a success of it.

In his own words, he only became involved in football to profit from it's global popularity .
