Transfers The Summer Transfer Edging Thread 2025

Would have fit Frank's system perfectly
He would have been the perfect signing for us as a 8/10 hybrid.

We can still get BEK, or possibly Paqueta. Paz looks amazing but seems only very distantly possible with his complicated ownership situation and loyalties.

I don't think City can afford to be seen selling us Savinho after their loss to us either, so that's over.

The thing most likely to happen right now is BEK so it'll probably be a sea of possibilities until late when the easiest and most likely thing ends up happening, after all.

If we sign BEK it should be along with a Paz and Savinho.

Just bringing in BEK as our main number 10 would be pathetic and will mean we've failed to land all of our top targets for that position this summer.

It's honestly not the worst- he's at least a legit good prospect in his position, and we do have Maddison and Kulu still under contract and returning. What it isn't however is a signing that would enable to play offensive football against top sides- he's a 10 that would play against lower tier oppo while we'd still be playing strong-defense counter-ball against top sides. Even still though that would be very useful for us.

I was thinking why would Rodgers come here, but he’s not on a big salary at the moment and I don’t think Villa have got space to increase it all that much. He probably feels undervalued there. Think it’s possible. The hard thing is agreeing a fee. If we turned his head with a good offer, maybe he would ask to leave. Long shot but you wouldn’t rule it out completely

I hope his head is already turned tbh.....he was absolutely terrible today as were the whole villa team!

He's actually not a bad shout at this point. I'm not always too impressed with his decision making. Technically and physically he's a good place and still only 21. Already got a full season of English top flight football under his belt - I don't hate it
I just don’t really trust us to do the Paz or Akliouche deals at all at this point, and think that a 10 is a non-negotiable necessity. And if we are actually to buy Savinho, surely there’s no way we allocate £60m towards Akliouche or Paz as well, right? It’s extremely difficult to see two of those huge deals coming off before window’s end.

I don’t know. I think Savio+BEK makes sense. I don’t buy Akliouche or Paz as being all that realistic.

Tough ask to expect a 20 y/o to creatively carry a crumbling EPL team through 2 dud managers and a relegation battle.
I'm not asking for miracles, I'm asking for something more than the most toothless attack the division has ever seen.

I too see the traits and the touch on the ball that he has, but he got a very extended opportunity as an ever-present in the PL and they couldn't produce anything.

I don't think BEK gets in the starting XI for us, and that's unacceptable.

Even though a lot of people like to call our crop Champo level, just go back and look at some of their line-ups in the Premier League. Messi wouldn't have made a difference
Messi would have made a difference :freund:

Man City on paper have a stronger team than Liverpool or Woolwich IMO but they are screwed if Pep’s fire in the belly is no longer there. Pep is an emotional guy if he has checked out they are going to just go through the motions.

Johnson gets some pelters in here considering the amount of goals he contributes. He made some cracking runs today, playing off the shoulder, but the balls never came on time and hence he was caught offside. I am not his biggest fan, but already see significant improvement in work rate and general play on last season. He got tired at the end and was rightly subbed.
Cannot start every game, hence the need for a Savinho type, but a great player to have, can play either side and scores for fun, despite how frustrating he can be at times.
He’s perfect for a game playing on the counter, he’s rapid so a threat on the shoulder, but also pops up with clinical finishes

We absolutely cannot let this small talented squad burn out through being over stretched and a lack of reinforcements. The players today showed they deserve backing. That includes quality support from a better squad than we have today. If it ends up like another burn out, like Harry’s Bale/Modric/VDV side or Poch’s nearly-men, it will be beyond disgraceful.
