Transfers The Summer Transfer Edging Thread 2025

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

We are targeting the right calibre of player. The names we've seemingly been strongly linked too are exciting and needle movers. The start of the window it was clear we needed quality to lift the ceiling not quantity.

They are just so useless at executing deals.

At this point im not interested in lowering the bar, id rather struggle like fick with what we've got, put the circa 120m we have into the pot for next summer with another 150m and have an almighty one after a season of frank laying the foundations.

But could we honestly sit here and say with any confidence that we would do that? No fucking way because there incompetent and out of their depth. Plus they'd find a way out of spending that kind of money and probably use it to build hotels ffs.
Yeah I'm not sold on the idea of just buying the likes of BEK and Garnacho because we missed out on our primary targets. Them players don't elevate us and bring us to the next level. They are just quantity over quality.

At this rate (if we can't sign names like Rogers , Paqueta, Savinho), we probably are just better off going with what we have and falling short but then throwing 300m at the next Summer window and leaving no stone unturned! Buy the top players on the market and improve our first team.

The problem is, we know the 300m won't be invested next summer and we'll be outspent again! Plus without CL football it'll be even harder to attract players! Thats why we are so desperate to see some signings now. This summer just feels like such an opportunity waisted. We weren't prepared.

Oh look, we never actually bid for Paz...

Ffs, Pretend fc!

Madrid would not match and pay 35m euros imo. They are far too stacked in paz position. Another bullshit story of looking like we tried.

Yeah, that's the guy. Pleased to see he got some mileage in his career. But was probably expecting him to develop into something a bit better than a solid Barnsley player though.
178 games in Serie A, Reggina, Verona, Udinese.

Bit more than a solid Barnsley player. He had a decent career but wasn't one of the very few players that become elite.

Worth the financial punt - there have been far worse examples go through our academy.

I remember around that time a Brazilian centre half called Rodrigo Defendi that was hoped to be a big deal. Looks like he ended up playing most games in Slovenia!

Pretty sure the £120m we were supposedly going to spend on Savinho and Eze will go the way of the £70m we were going to spend on Guehi last January or £50m on Neto last summer. Somehow next summer we'll be pleading poverty again despite an even thinner squad and lower wage bill.

Emil Halfredson was the Icelandic player, Limbersky was Czech I believe, neither had any kind of hype surrounding them at signing, they were Arnesen punts for peanuts.

Of course at the time, our squad was very mediocre, and so any young signing was subject to fans online hyping themselves up beyond all reason, so maybe that's the talk you're remembering. There were tons of signings like that back then, it was much more manageable with fees being so much lower, and there wasn't such extensive Youtube and stats coverage, so they were a genuine mystery, Schroedinger's footballers if you will.

Reto Ziegler was the most successful of those punts, and whilst he didn't set the world alight, he didn't shame himself either, and went on to have a decent-ish career post Spurs, playing in Serie A and representing Switzerland.
Spot on. It was a Tottenham section of a forum at the time I saw the hype build and then after that loss they were completely forgotten. That's how I recall it anyway.

As for Ziegler, I quite liked him. Was a tad disappointed he was sold really.

I agree with you but it’s not the whole picture. Hincapie, Eze etc we can pay them what the scum are paying them. But they prefer that project over ours at the moment.

Players know that they have a stable manager, consistent CL participation as well as a good chance of major trophies.

We can offer none of that. It’s why I hate Levy for wasting the chances we had when we were doing great under Poch. Levy wasted it.
How long has the Woolwich project been running?

One of my 'favourite' cases of overrated hype was two Icelandic players we bought about 20 years ago (David Limbersky and another chap I can't recall) for about £5m to develop in our reserves.

Lots and lots of talk about them. First reserve game they featured in we got slapped 5-0 and then I never heard from them again. Could still be around for all I know.
Limbersky was from Czechia.
The Icelandic player at same time was Halfreddsson, don’t think either played for us

It's ok lads another SC oracle has spoken and this time it's Trix with this very positive and revealing update
"Well we are still in for players and one hurdle at least has been knocked down. I don't want to say too much other than that."

This goes hand in hand with the other oracle Hercules saying this morning "don't give up"

That's gotta be worth a monthly DD of at least £10 if not more. Get your wallets out ladies and gentlemen
Those clowns look like they pick their quotes verbatim from cryptic crossword clues in the Times

They could at least mix it up with the odd anagram.

Evyl slaphead stymies move, has Vino instead (7)

Not too hard is it lads?

I raise you Bongani Khumalo. Gary Mabbutt called him the next Lucas Radebe... thanks Gaz

The Signing Tel for £40 million after he was shite on Loan to then send Moore to Scotland for the season sums us up, surely as a Club we take the risk with Moore this season and use that £40 million to ensure Frank has all his targets in before the season starts , even if that means paying a bit more.
The purchase of Tel is a real conundrum and completely ignores the benefits of the 'try before you buy' option which leads me to conclude that despite reports to the contrary his loan deal did indeed contain an obligation to buy.

Nothing else makes sense and without wishing to upset the more qualified scouts within the forum I really cannot see what they are seeing other than a young athlete that runs around a bit.

£40m for a young prospect is in the higher bracket for a punt and it should have manifested into some glimpses of star ability by now and it simpy hasn't.

I was mainly on a site called spurs-sg for some reason back then, it was set up largely for Singapore Spurs supporters club I think, but it had a really good section that tracked all (ALL) of the transfer links from around the internet in one place, naive young me used to get so giddy following that! Also a site called MEHSTG, never really active on either forum, if they even had one, my first dip into that ocean was on SC...

:mourcry:

This was another sliding doors moment and Levy is about to strike out again. We need to drop 150m on two players right now... CAM and LB/LCB... two players who are first teamers no matter who is available. I don't care if Udogie, Spence, Davies, Maddison and Kulu are fit... they are on the bench. That is what big clubs do.

100%. all 5 players you mentioned cannot be trusted to be first team players for a full season. We need to add quality and not just more quantity.
