Career wise, I really don’t understand why he’d pick Chelsea over us. Palmer’s their number 10 for the next 6/7 years and they want Garnacho for the LW position. Whereas if he comes here, he’s our first choice number 10 and would potentially be our main man and posterboy if he’s as good as he’s made out to be.

Money might come into it, but I thought Chelsea were paying way less now under Boehly than they did under Abramovich.

And if it’s about winning things, I don’t think Chelsea are that much closer than us to being title contenders, that Micky Mouse cup win doesn’t change that. They’ve fallen way behind where they were under Abramovich, and Boehly ain’t too bothered about winning things, as long as they’re in the Champions League he’s happy. They’re basically Woolwich in Wenger’s latter years.

He only needs to look at Madueke.

Start of last season, just below Palmer you would have thought. Then.....

It's partly money, but there feels more to it.

I dunno, but Chelsea players are simply aucton pieces in my mind.

But Rogers is "only" on £75k a week.
They have 14 players earning more than him. At least 3 earning double his wages*

Selling him to ease their wage ratio doesn't achieve much unless he himself is demanding more money that they can't give him.

*some of these figures may need updating
That is true and they have him contracted until 2030 on 75k a week which is very good business. Hence why they'll demand close to 100m

It does help them though as they bought Rogers for around 10m so they'd be able to use that profit as revenue/turnover. It doesn't fix their underlying issue but would give them more leeway. But yeah its not something they'll want to do. Instead they'll be desperate to lose players like Malen, Bailey and Digne!

It's all about the money and the medals.
Players will sit on their bench for double the money and 15 minutes in a cup to get a winners medal.
And tbf, I don't mind missing out on those types.

In a World Cup year, he surely wants to play as well.

But money and power often rule. The agents dictate the pecking order their clients go because of money and recent history of winning. As we saw with United beating Newcastle to several players this summer

If you want to break the pecking order like City did and before them Chelsea, then you need to pay over the odds, and pay over the odds repeatedly

United will always be chosen ahead of Newcastle.

Option A
Another CB coming in.

Option B
We've decided not to bring a CB in and are covered in that department without Vuskovic.

What option do people think is more likely?
If we didn't play 3 at back against city away, we'll probably not do it much this season. We have Romero, VdV, Danso, Dragusin, Davies, Takai that all can play CB. When is Dragusin back? I'm pretty sure he and Davies will look much better in a Frank system than in last year's high line system. Based on this, I'm ok with not bringing another CB in. As long as we bring something in, preferably a starting #10.

It appears to be a great money laundering business. Not surprised Ngumoha jumped ship and went to Liverpool at 16. Apparently Tariq George is probably moving,
Will be interesting over the next few years to see if Cheksea keep producing these boys. The people who were running their academy have left in last year or two.

More likely new contract incoming then to take him up to the level of the other players. Villa arent going to care about some uefa fine for their wages ratio. They’ll just pay it and carry on. The new type of PL owner gives zero fucks for regulation.

It was pretty stupid to release him on a free. We agreed a deal with Millwall that was a low fee with a big sell-on but Tanganga wanted to hold talks with a couple of Serie A teams first. Instead of activating our option for an extra year, we released him instead and then he joined Millwall on a free anyway. Probably only would have been 3 or 4m but such a waste.

Business titan innit...
