I think Frank made the mistake of falling back on players who have put in good early performances and put in a shift in training, rather than selecting the midfield based on the opposition, maybe he underestimated Bournemouth's defensive solidity considering they had their entire backline plundered in the window, but it's clear from him hooking Palhinha for Bergvall early in the 2nd half and bringing on Odobert to give us more width that he understood what the problem was, probably an argument for him making those changes at HT but 53 mins is still much more proactive than we used to see with Ange and Conte tbf.

I think what Frank learned yesterday is that almost certainly can’t include both Palinha and Bentancur because there are teams who will just press you out of the game.
He likes Sarr which is great, so now Simons is here, he probably needs to rethink the balance of his MF during the international break.

The irony as well, was that as we couldn't get anywhere near their goals for over an hour, we didn't have any shots and no shots equals no goal kicks for US to pressure them on.
From where I sit in the upper tier it was all so obvious what was happening and why we couldn't seem to get the ball into their box even close to it.
A major cause being we had half our team in our own 3rd for most of the game.
I get why at times. It opened the pitch up and stopped Bournemouth getting too compact and opened (theoretical) space. But the space was an illusion as every one of our players was harassed constantly.
They also had a plan to go long into our RB area, wait for Porro or Romero to knock the ball back and constantly had 2 Bournemouth players attacking that 2nd ball. Every time.
I expect Frank to see all this post match, learn from it, and improve next time out. Those were all issues that could have been dealt with by tactical changes. I suspect the latter was why Spence ended up on the right towards the end, as he won the ball and generally ran it out or managed to clear it long.
That stopped some of the Bournemouth pressure in the last 15 minutes and led to Kudus affecting the game more.
I hope that was why Frank did it and not just for a general change/rest
Have to admit I was one of those scoffing. I thought he was washed but he looks unbelievable and it does appear like a miss right now.

Semenyo is not leaving Bournemouth, but if, in some crazy universe where he did, it would be for obscene money that we'd never spend. £100m+ IMO

Unfortunately (yet kind of a good thing) I dont think frank wants to add any players to the squad that aren't a big level above what we already have.
Its either a player that could/would be good enough for a title challenging team or nobody and stick with what we have.
Im not saying we are challenging for a title at all but thats what he will be building towards. If we can add those further 3/4 top quality players over the next couple of windows we can be ready, especially as the younger players develop and start to fill their potential.
I think we will either get a big out of nowhere suprise or nothing. Maybe a lookman on loan and we go for savinho again in January/summer when city give in and his value drops.

But suddenly they are shit and we should have played Bergval and Gray?
Both are still learning and probably would have been massively exposed by Bournemouths pressing and hard work; if anything Bergval perhaps should have played instead of Sarr, but yeah it’s on Palhinha and Bentancur.
I can imagine the meltdown had we started with Gray and Bergval and the exact same thing happened. It happened because we weren’t at it and Bournemouth wanted it more, and we had no answer to their pressing.
Because he's not better than Maddison or Kulusevski so when they come back we would be stuck with 3 players who all do a version of the same thing. It's a terrible idea.
