Klinsmann was the last although a case could be made for Davids too.

We definitely do not retain a world class player on big wages.

Not under Sugar, ENIC or Levy.

You then have to come up with how many players in the last 10 to 15 years woulsd objectively be considered to be world class (all clubs outside of City), and who of that group has stayed at their respective club?

There really are very few in the world class category, so it's not just us if we are being brutallly honest.

I don't think there have been more than half a dozen world class (who would get into a world 16), outside of City in a long time.

We keep seeing what we want to see, although it's far from encouraging so far in this window, but that's a world away from saying we don't sign world class players.

Hi John old friend. Seeing as we have VDV Romero danso dragusin, vusckovic Davies and Philips

Do you think a new CB is a requirement?

Would love to hear you thoughts on some options you’d consider?

Xx

I do think one of Cirkin or KWP will come in. Neither are up to standard of course but it’s better that than running Porro into the ground imo.

Game theory wise: 1: You can survive a mediocre player playing a few matches in rotation. 2: You cannot survive a serious injury to Porro or Udogie.

Our club trained issues are terrible and it’s a shite position to be in, but it’s not like KWP/Cirkin are National League mugs.
That’s exactly what it would be for rather than running one of the first choices into the ground as you say.

Bring Cirkin in for one of the easier cup games when you draw a Tamworth or like ……….. oh!

World class players are a rarity these days and not so much a necessity in the modern game in the sense that having a balanced squad is more important.

The big difference now however is that to be successful there are multiple variables to consider (manager, tactics, mentality etc). Whereas from a squad perspective, something that separates the competitive sides and those like the current Spurs squad, is the requirement to have players that can provide a spark. Sadly the current Spurs squad is pretty much one dimensional. Our central midfield is average with the exception of Bergvall, creativity (Maddison/Kulu) is inconsistent, our strikers are average and our wide forwards are no better than any of the other sides outside the top 5.

For me we desperately need a DM and another CM similar to Bergvall (vision, array of passing, bundle of energy and enthusiasm, able to read the game etc), a potent striker and some serious creativity (Eze and Simons).

I expect Frank to get a much better tune out of the players than Ange but we’ll fall short of our aspirations (decent Champions League run and competing for a top 5 finish) unless we significantly invest in our midfield and attack.

That's not how it works.

"In the UEFA Champions League, each club can register a maximum of 25 players on List A, including at least two goalkeepers. A minimum of eight of these 25 places must be reserved for "locally trained players (with a maximum of four being "association-trained). There is also a List B for players who meet specific age and club training requirements."

i.e.

17 non-HG
4 HG (currently: Solanke, Maddison, Spence, Johnson..... Gray? Davies? ...Will have to count as non-HG if included.)
4 CT (currently: Austin, Scarlett.... + room for 2?)

+ CT U21s (Moore etc.)

Scarlett is still counted as List B this season as age is determined on 1 January 2025 for 2025/26 season - so extra to the 22 Players (including CT Austin) on List A

I have no issue getting Eze. We still need a RW though with Johnson the only natural RW we have and the question is if we get Eze does that mean we don’t get a top RW?

Plus of course DM. For me RW and DM are the clear holes and Eze doesn’t fix that.
With Frank wanting Johnson when he was at Brentford I reckon he stays our starting RW. Think the big forward signing will be the Son replacement (hopefully Eze).
